This cross-sectional study assessed the relationship between fixed orthodontic treatment duration and caries activity. Two hundred sixty 10- to 30-year-olds were divided into 4 groups (<i>n</i> = 65): no appliances (G0), for 1 year (G1), 2 years (G2), or 3 (G3). Orthodontic was significantly associated with active caries: prevalence 1.5% G0, 27.7% G1, 72.3% G2 G3; median number of lesions 0 G0 G1 G3.
