The Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomograph (J-PET) is the first PET built from plastic scintillators.J-PET prototype consists of 192 detection modules arranged axially in three layers forming a cylindrical diagnostic chamber with inner diameter 85 cm and axial field-of-view 50 cm.An arrangement long strips scintillators, their small light attenuation, superior timing properties, relative ease increase opens promising perspectives for cost effective construction whole-body scanner, as well...
In this article it is presented an FPGA based $M$ulti-$V$oltage $T$hreshold (MVT) system which allows of sampling fast signals ($1-2$ ns rising and falling edge) in both voltage time domain. It possible to achieve a precision measurement $20$ ps RMS reconstruct charge signals, using simple approach, with deviation from real value smaller than 10$\%$. Utilization the differential inputs chip as comparators together implementation TDC inside allowed us compact multi-channel characterized by...
A novel approach to tomographic data processing has been developed and evaluated using the Jagiellonian PET (J-PET) scanner as an example. We propose a system in which there is no need for powerful, local facility, capable reconstruct images on fly. Instead we introduce Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) System-on-Chip (SoC) platform connected directly streams coming from scanner, can perform event building, filtering, coincidence search Region-Of-Response (ROR) reconstruction by...
Recent tests of a single module the Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomography system (J-PET) consisting 30 cm long plastic scintillator strips have proven its applicability for detection annihilation quanta (0.511 MeV) with coincidence resolving time (CRT) 0.266 ns. The achieved resolution is almost by factor two better respect to current TOF-PET detectors and it can still be improved since, as shown in this article, intrinsic limit determination interaction 0.511 MeV gamma scintillators...
We present a study of the application Jagiellonian positron emission tomograph (J-PET) for registration gamma quanta from decays ortho-positronium (o-Ps). The J-PET is first tomography scanner based on organic scintillators in contrast to all current PET scanners inorganic crystals. Monte Carlo simulations show that as an axially symmetric and high acceptance can be used multi-purpose detector well suited pursue research including e.g. tests discrete symmetries addition medical imaging....
We present a novel method to calculate vitamin D3 -weighted exposure by integrating the incident solar spectral radiance over all relevant parts of human body. Earlier investigations are based on irradiance surfaces, whereas our calculated voxel model takes into account complex geometry radiation field. Assuming that sufficient (1000 international units) can be produced within body in one minute for completely uncovered vertical posture summer at midlatitudes (e.g. Rome, June 21, noon, UV...
The Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomograph (J-PET) was constructed as a prototype of the cost-effective scanner for simultaneous metabolic imaging whole human body. Being optimized detection photons from electron-positron annihilation with high time- and angular-resolution, it constitutes multi-purpose detector providing new opportunities studying decays positronium atoms. Positronium is lightest purely leptonic object decaying into photons. As an atom bound by central potential parity...
In this paper, we present a complete Data Acquisition System (DAQ) together with the readout mechanisms for J-PET tomography scanner. In general, detector chain is constructed out of Front-End Electronics (FEE) measurement devices such as Time-to-Digital or Analog-to-Digital Converters (TDCs ADCs), data collectors and storage. We have developed system capable maintaining continuous digitized without preliminary selection.Such operation mode results in up to 8 Gbps stream, therefore, it...
In this paper we estimate the time resolution of J-PET scanner built from plastic scintillators. We incorporate method signal processing using Tikhonov regularization framework and kernel density estimation method. obtain simple, closed-form analytical formulae for resolution. The proposed is validated signals registered by means single detection unit tomograph a 30 cm long scintillator strip. It shown that experimental theoretical results obtained equipped with vacuum tube photomultipliers...

J-PET analysis framework is a exible, lightweight, ROOT-based software package which provides the tools to develop reconstruction and calibration procedures for PET tomography. In this article we present implementation of full data-processing chain in used data tomography scanner. The incorporates automated handling setup parameters' database as well high level building procedures. Each these components briey discussed.
Samples of uterine leiomyomatis and normal tissues taken from patients after surgery were investigated using the Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS).Significant differences in all PALS parameters between diseased observed. For studied patients, it was found that values free annihilation orthopositronium lifetime are larger for tumorous than healthy ones. For most intensity ortho-positronium smaller tissues. For first time, this kind studies, 3γ fraction positron determined to...
Novel Positron Emission Tomography system, based on plastic scintillators, is developed by the J-PET collaboration. In order to optimize geometrical configuration of built device, advanced computer simulations are performed. Detailed study presented background given accidental coincidences and multiple scattering gamma quanta.
The positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was applied to the samples of human uterine leiomyomas and normal myometrium tissues taken from selected place uterus during a surgery. The method indicated differences in values measured parameters (lifetimes intensities) between healthy diseased tissue samples. The additional measurements were performed either darkness or presence visible light which influenced free radicals present both kind and, as result, made changes o-Ps decay intensity values.

Also hygroscopicity yeasts in time was examined, allowing check how water – the main component cell affects PALS parameters, thus -Ps 1.2 1.4 (shorter-lived dried yeasts. The sufficient hydrate cells below...
