The Amphipoda includes a large clade defined by the presence of previously unrecognised synapomorphy, apical robust setae on rami uropods 1-2. We term this Senticaudata subord. nov. (Latin: sentis = thorn). It almost all freshwater species as well number marine benthic taxa, formerly part 'Gammaridea'. phylog-eny senticaudates was determined cladistic analysis morphological characters and character states. Within suborder there are six infraorders: Carangoliopsida, Talitrida, Hadziida,...
We redescribe Talorchestia gracilis (Dana, 1852a) for the first time and designate a neotype based on new collections from Pulau Layang-Layang, Swallow Reef, South China Sea. describe T. bunaken sp. nov. Bunaken Island, Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia, dili Dili, Timor-Leste, seringat Singapore, sipadan Sipadan Sabah, Malaysia yoyoae Lombok, Indonesia. report spinipalma Madang, northern Papua New Guinea.
A classification is proposed for the order Amphipoda. The Amphipoda includes six suborders, Pseudingolfiellidea, Hyperiidea, Colomastigidea, Hyperiopsidea, Senticaudata (described in a previous contribution (Lowry & Myers 2013)) and Amphilochidea. suborder Ingolfiellidea raised to status. cladistic tree, based on morphology, presented illustrating relationships of at parvorder level. tree families Physomatidira Physocephalatidira, Maxillipiidira, Oedicerotidira, Eusiridira Amphilochidira...
Based on new talitrid amphipod collections from South Africa one genus, Capeorchestia gen. nov., and species, Africorchestia meridionalis sp. are described quadrispinosa (K.H. Barnard, 1916) is redescribed. Eorchestia Bousfield, 1984 this redescription Orchestia dassenensis moved to the Tasmanian species palustris Richardson, 1993 E. rupestris Microrchestia 1984. The current knowledge about ecology of capensis (Dana, 1853), A. summarized.
A new genus and species, Persianorchestia nirvana gen. et sp. nov., is described from the south coast of Iran along Gulf Oman. The characterized by large eyes, gnathopod 1 posterior margin carpus propodus each with lobe covered in palmate setae, smooth on dactylus male 2, a slender pereopod 5, uropod outer ramus without marginal robust setae apical spear-shaped rami uropods 2. most similar to Pseudorchestoidea Bousfield, 1982.
The Tryphosa group is established within the tryphosine amphipods. It contains eight genera worldwide (Bruunosa Barnard & Karaman, 1987; Glorieusella gen. nov.; Gronella 1991; Metambasia Stephensen, 1923; Pseudonesimus Chevreux, 1926; Schisturella Norman, 1900; Thrombasia J.L. Barnard, 1966; and Boeck, 1871). As part of we describe new genus from Madagascar four species (Schisturella rosa sp. nov., evalina umina saros nov.) eastern Australia.
The frequently studied amphipod genus Talitrus Latreille, 1802, long thought to be monotypic is shown here include three species. Two species had already been recognized as distinct cloquetii Audouin, 1826 and T. platycheles Guérin, 1832, but both reduced synonymy with saltator. All are described figured a key provided for their identification. Because of the extensive literature associated name saltator (sensu lato) we have attempted assign published records appropriate
Two new coastal talitrid genera are described, Austropacifica gen. nov., known from tropical Australia, Papua New Guinea and the south-western Pacific Ocean Gazia ranging East Africa to Caribbean Sea. species of talitrids described: gazi sp. nov. Gazi Bay, Kenya Talorchestia anakao western Madagascar. The as affinis Maccagno, 1936 is redescribed its distribution extended coast Red Sea based on collections. Talitrid generic level diversity in Indo discussed a dichotomous key all provided.
The new talitrid amphipod genus Hermesorchestia is established for one species from Australia, H. alastairi, common to the beaches of Tasmania. gen. nov. typified by sexually dimorphic males which have palmate lobes on carpus and propodus gnathopod 1, a three dimensional merus article pereopod 7 expanded posterior margin carpus. Other characters define alastairi et sp. are male 6 carpus, basis expansion, shape both medial facial, expansion setation telson. documented burrower (sand-hopper),...
The genus Eriopisella is recorded for the first time from Australia. Material Moreton Bay, Queensland, proved to be an undescribed species and here fully described figured under name E. moretoni sp. nov. An identification key nine known world of provided.

We report seven tryphosine genera (two new) from Australian waters for the first time and describe 13 new species: Cedrosella cito sp. nov.; Lysianella lui moonamoona Microlysias soela Paralysianopsis capricornia dandenong pomona ruffoi Patonga nona gen. nov., Tasmanosa tasman toogooloo Tryphosites colmani psittacus nov. Rhinolabia is considered to be a junior synonymy of Paralysianopsis. elliotti (Lowry & Stoddart, 1995b) P. cf. jebbi 1995b), previously known Papua New Guinea are also...
A new monotypic superfamily, family, genus and species of Hadziida is described from the Brazilian continental shelf. Magnovioidea superfam. nov. Magnovidae fam. Magnovis gen. are distinguished by presence of: antenna 1 shorter than peduncle 2; maxilliped outer plate falcate; palp, article 4 reduced left right mandibles with a well-developed molar that dominates mandibular area. Eyes absent. The type-species elizabethae sp. has strongly sexually dimorphic males in which gnathopod 2 larger 1....
The present study reviews the taxonomy of Phtisicidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) from coast New South Wales, Australia. following seven species are described; Dodecas decacentrum Stebbing, 1910b, hexacentrum Mayer, 1903, Hircella cornigera (Haswell, 1879b), Metaproto novaehollandiae 1879a), Notoprotomima smithi gen. nov., sp. Paraproto and Perotripus Generic diagnoses Dodecas, provided based on materials. is fully described as a new genus. differs by presence paired dorsodistal projections...
A new species of fresh-water amphipod is described from Australia. Australomicroprotopus megacoxa gen. nov. sp. It placed in a family, the Australomicroprotopidae fam. and fully figured.
A new species of fresh-water amphipod, Fluviadulzura spinicauda gen. nov. sp. is described from rivers in Victoria, Australia. The taxon fully and figured.
Eriopisidae is a widespread amphipod family, whose members have subcylindrical bodies, often do not eyes, showing elongate third uropods in which the endopod reduced and exopod can become very long. This first record of from Central America. Here, we describe new genus species Panamapisa guaymii gen. nov., sp. nov. Bocas del Toro, Panama. The taxon differs other family having greatly enlarged merus on gnathopod 1, marginal setae dactyls pereopod 5 to 7 uropod nearly as long body.
Based on a phylogenetic analysis of 104 genera and 156 species corophiidean amphipods, we present new phylogeny higher-level classification for the suborder Corophiidea Leach, 1814. The divides corophiideans into two infraorders, Corophiida Caprellida, based hypothesis evolution different feeding strategies. Members are derived from bottom-feeding detritivores, whereas members Caprellida ancestors that fed material suspended in water column. Within there unspecialized clades such as aoroids,...
