Abstract Over the past 200 years of written records, Hawaiian Islands have experienced tens tsunamis generated by earthquakes in subduction zones Pacific ‘Ring Fire’ (for example, Alaska–Aleutian, Kuril–Kamchatka, Chile and Japan). Mapping dating anomalous beds sand silt deposited low‐lying areas along coasts, even those distant from zones, is critical for assessing tsunami hazard throughout basin. This study searched evidence inundation using stratigraphic sedimentological analyses...
Stratigraphic evidence for coseismic uplift, a tsunami, and sandy debris flow linked to the A.D. 900–930 Seattle‐fault‐zone earthquake subsequent submergence is present at Gorst terminus of Sinclair Inlet, Washington. This study indicates that least 3 m uplift preceded tsunami followed by flow. Though Seattle Tacoma fault zones ruptured within error ages deposit, model simulations indicate generates an order magnitude larger in vicinity field area than more likely generator tsunami....
Tsunamis and storms instigate sedimentological geomorphological changes to the coastal system, both long-term ephemeral. To accurately predict future hazards, one must identify records that are generated by processes associated with these hazards recognize what will be preserved. Using eyewitness accounts, photographs, sedimentology, this study documents pre- post-tsunami conditions constrains timing process of depositional events during following 11 March 2011 Tohoku tsunami in system at El...
