Abstract Identifying cryptic species and juveniles in the Ophiuroidea has always been a challenge. However, post-larval developmental studies have potential to uncover identity of these juveniles, as they offer valuable information that is not often found adults. Although importance studying growth series well-known ophiuroids, it difficult obtain identify juvenile stages. For this reason, most are restricted brooding lacking for many species, including those genus Ophiocoma . In study, was...

We re-describe and confirm the validity of Ophiothrix trindadensis Tommasi, 1970 (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea). This is a native species from Brazil, however it lacked type series deposited in scientific collections. The recognition O. was made possible using integrative taxonomy applied to many specimens locality (Trindade Island) as well different locations along Brazilian coast (Araçá Bay Estuarine Complex Paranaguá). Initially, 835 were studied divided into four candidate (CS) inferred...

Abstract This study describes and illustrates the biodiversity of macroinvertebrates associated to Sargassum Dictyota seaweed habitats in Alcatrazes archipelago, largest Marine Protected Area (MPA) state São Paulo, southeast Brazil. Assemblages were sampled during summers 2018, 2019 2020 winter 2018 at two sites on main island. Macroalgae containing fauna collected approximately 10 meters deep, with six samples each site sampling campaign. fronds prevailed summer collections, whilst absent...

Abstract The brittle stars of the family Ophiocomidae inhabit shallow waters and coral reefs tropical regions. species Ophiocoma are difficult to identify due high morphological variation, especially when different stages development observed. Here, based on analyses, two Brazilian morphotypes were studied characterized, sp. NB (Northeastern Brazil) TMV (Trindade Martin Vaz Archipelago), subsequently thoroughly analysed confirm whether they same or not. After studies, including external...

Abstract The genera Ophiophragmus and Amphiodia are amphiurids that considered taxonomically difficult due to their great resemblance, few diagnostic characters synonymy problems. Our aim is redescribe the species using scanning electron microscopy morphometry of structures, provide new information for identification these Ophiuroidea. Five spp. six recorded in Brazil were rigorously redescribed. descriptions include derived from external morphology, arm microstructures morphometry. We also...
