The present study aimed to understand the population dynamics of Mexican barred snapper Hoplopagrus guentherii in Santa Rosalía, Gulf California. This species is among most economically important resources artisanal fisheries. size structure ranged from 28 cm (female) 69 (male) total length. weight-length relationship expressed with equation W = a × Ltb for all specimens and by sex indicated isometric growth. There was greater number females than males. gonadosomatic index showed two...

Reproductive aspects (spawning season, size and weight at maturity, fecundity) of Octopus hubbsorum are reported for Espíritu Santo Island, southern Gulf California (Mexico). A total 230 octopuses were captured (46% females 54% males) between June 2006 2007. The sex ratio was not significantly different from 1:1 (P > than 0.05) except in November, when more males females. Four sexual maturity stages established both sexes: immature, maturing, mature, prespawning (for females) or spawning...

The monthly variation in the biochemical composition of digestive gland, adductor muscle and gonad its relationship with gonadal index (GI) were studied during 2 years a wild population Hyotissa hyotis living Gulf California. Protein was main constituent gonad, gland muscle. Temperature (20°C to 24°C) favored accumulation protein gametogenesis. Carbohydrates lipids stored spring gametogenesis support reproduction effort. Three spawning periods detected, one first year two second.

Taxonomic distinction is a measure of diversity that has number advantages provides relevant connotation to theoretical and applied ecology. The usefulness this type as an alternative method for assessing the biodiversity soft-bottom benthic marine ecosystems was tested using indices average taxonomic distinctness (Delta+) variation in (Lambda+) mollusk communities Gulf Batabanó (Cuba). For purpose, inventories soft bottom species obtained period 1981-1985 years 2004/2007 were used. Both...

Hyotissa hyotis specimens were collected at Espíritu Santo Island, Gulf of California, from March 1998 to 1999. Water temperature was recorded, gut-content samples obtained, phytoplankton abundance estimated, and the reproductive status inferred through gonadic index. Gut content included phytoplankton, mostly diatoms (86.5%) dinoflagellates (13.5%). The highest frequency in gut contents occurred May, along with a growing seawater, matching period gonad development seasonal rise temperature....

There were significant differences between banks, and a steady north-to-south decrease fitted to potential model. At low densities, S. showed lower variability size. Since densities suitable for commercial exploitation, sustainable extraction can be performed under recovery approach. Also, this represents baseline...
