Abstract Global biodiversity peaks in the tropical forests of Andes, a striking geological feature that has likely been instrumental generating by providing opportunities for both vicariant and ecological speciation. However, role these mountains diversification insects, which dominate biodiversity, poorly explored using phylogenetic methods. Here we study Andes evolution diverse Neotropical insect group, clearwing butterflies. We used dated species‐level phylogenies to investigate time...
Abstract The Neotropics harbour the most diverse flora and fauna on Earth. Andes are a major centre of diversification source diversity for adjacent areas in plants vertebrates, but studies insects remain scarce, even though they constitute largest fraction terrestrial biodiversity. Here, we combine molecular morphological characters to generate dated phylogeny butterfly genus Pteronymia (Nymphalidae: Danainae), which use infer spatial, elevational temporal patterns. We first propose six...
Blow flies are of medical, sanitary, veterinary, and forensic importance. Their accurate taxonomic identification is essential for their use in applied research. However, neotropical fauna has not been completely studied or described, taxa without the required training a difficult task. Additionally, current morphological keys fitting to all extant taxa. Molecular-based approaches widely used overcome these issues, including standard 5' COI barcode fragment (~650 base pairs [bp]) at species...
Climate change has affected the geographical distributions of most species worldwide; in particular, insects economic importance inhabiting tropical regions have been impacted. Current and future predictions geographic distribution are frequently included models (SDMs). The potential spatial fruit fly Anastrepha striata Schiner, main agricultural guava crops, under current possible scenarios Colombia were modeled, establishment risk was assessed for each guava-producing municipality country....
Background Blow flies are a family of dipterans medical, veterinary and sanitary importance. We aim to predict the current geographical distribution six neotropical blowfly species with different altitudinal ranges (high, medium, lowlands) degree synanthropy (eusynanthropic, hemisynanthropic asynanthropic) based on their existing fundamental niche (E A ) in Northwestern South America. Methods Geographical records were compiled data from museum specimens literature. The accessible area...

Lucilia eximia (Wiedemann, 1819) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) is a blowfly with medical and forensic importance that shows genetic color variation, however, these variations have not justified the description of new species. But in entomology an accurate identification species subpopulations crucial. We explored variation L. from eight localities, five natural regions Colombia using two mitochondrial fragments, including standard locus for insect COI Cytb-tRNA-Ser-ND1 region. found significant...
