The courtship behavior in Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis, K. f. flavescens, Sternothaerus odoratus, and S. carinatus, was studied both the field captivity. Courtship performances four species were very similar divisible into three phases: tactile; mounting intromission; biting rubbing. Sexual maturity is attained between seven years of age males, five to eight females.

Heavy metals were monitored from four sources: treated sewage effluent (TSE), sediment, snails, and grass roots. Using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES), the results indicated that heavy metal values increase TSE to rest of three sources. High detected in sources Cu, Ni Zn. Many exceeded Minimum Permissible Levels (MPL) for wastewater discharge reuse Oman. Continuous monitoring accumulation environment must be implemented avoid health risk further...

Abstract Twenty‐three stages in the embryonic development of western painted turtle, Chrysemys picta bellii are described. The staging is based primarily on morphological changes, as well age and size embryo.

Male and female reproductive cycles were studied in 4 species of kinosternid turtles (Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis, K. f. flavescens, Sternotherus odoratus, S. carinatus) collected from Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma. Spermatogenesis begins June reaches a peak by mid-August when the testes attain maximum size. Testicular regression shortly after cessation spermatogenesis. Follicular growth began during late summer but did not reach its until following spring just prior to ovulation....

Throughout the world, food processing and handling is a major problem leading to poisoning infection.A total of 480 samples was analyzed for Staphylococcus aureus contamination which resulted from processing. Most isolates were taken food-handlers using nasal swabs. The most contaminated chicken pastries, followed by egg sandwiches spring rolls.Isolates all produced virulence factors hemolysin, coagulase, DNase enterotoxins.Five different enterotoxins (SEs) isolated identified samples.The...

Viability of multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria (MARB) in tertiary treated sewage effluent (TTSE) used for irrigation, was investigated at the Sultan Qaboos University treatment plant (STP). This water recycle system is here as a model systems commonly throughout Oman and Gulf region. Samples TTSE were collected weekly from four sites, 1.5 km each other. Chlorine levels declined gradually three sites with increasing distance STP. Viable bacteria, coliforms nitrate concentrations...

Plasma concentrations of progesterone and oestradiol-17 beta were determined by radioimmunoassay procedures in the sexually mature female snapping turtle at four different stages annual ovarian cycle. The highest level peripheral plasma was detected during luteal stage (June), whereas concentration oestradiol (280 pg/ml) May, immediately before ovulation.

Household water in Oman, as well other countries the region, is stored tanks placed on house roofs that can be subjected to physicochemical factors which promote microbial growth, including pathogens and opportunistic pose health risks. Water samples were collected from 30 houses a heavily populated suburb of Muscat. The used either glass reinforced plastic (GRP), polyethylene or galvanised iron (GI). Heterotrophic bacteria, coliforms, faecal coliforms sulphur bacteria varied significantly...

Oman is located in an arid zone with low rainfall and water demand a major concern. Water desalination wastewater recycling are alternative sources. Since antibiotics become highly diluted aquatic environment, their detection becomes difficult. Antibiotic resistant bacteria were used as bio-indicators of treated sewage effluent (TSE) contamination from industrial residential Access TSE was dumped directly into valley which transformed small pond. dumping point, pond soil snail samples...
