Abstract The present state of deoxygenation in the northern limits shallow oxygen minimum zone off Mexico is examined order to detect its effects on larval fish habitats and consider sensitivity larvae decreased dissolved oxygen. A series cruises between 2000 2017 indicated a significant vertical expansion low waters. upper limit suboxic conditions (<4.4 μmol/kg) has risen ~100 m at 19.5°N Cabo Corrientes ~50 25°N mouth Gulf California. habitat distribution was related geographic...
Abstract Four underwater glider missions were carried out to sample the physical and bio‐optical properties inside a Loop Current Eddy (LCE) in Gulf of Mexico, investigate whether winter deepening mixed‐layer erosion nitracline stimulates phytoplankton growth. Recent coupled physical‐biogeochemical numerical models support this mechanism, but observations using profiling floats suggest that there is no seasonal cycle on integrated biomass. Here, data collected by gliders during full LCE...
This study aims to describe the response of two persistent chlorophyll-a maxima physical processes that affect po- sition thermocline/nitracline in Eastern Tropical North Pacific (ETNP). We focused on Long Rossby Waves (LRWs) due their relevance ETNP circulation and potential role introducing nutrients into euphotic zone. found shallower maximum oxygenated waters became more intense when denser (containing nu- trients) moved toward surface. suggests changes isopycnals nitracline...
We present new results of the coccolith fluxes in Perdido and Coatzacoalcos regions Gulf Mexico explore environmental variables that may control them. Two sediment trap moorings located at a water depth 1100 m collected settling particles from June 2016 to July 2017. Both showed similar seasonal distributions total fluxes, with highest recorded during winter, decreasing through spring, moderate summer autumn. The shows slightly higher annual average 3.09 x 109 ± 0.89 coccoliths per m-2d-1,...
