We present Bitey, a subtle, wearable device for enabling input via tooth clicks. Based on bone-conduction microphone worn just above the ears, Bitey recognizes click sounds from up to five different pairs of teeth, allowing fully hands-free interface control. explore space and show that allows high degree accuracy in distinguishing between clicks, with 94% under laboratory conditions pairs. Finally, we illustrate Bitey's potential through two demonstration applications: list navigation...
Toolkits for shape-changing interfaces (SCIs) enable designers and researchers to easily explore the broad design space of SCIs. However, despite their utility, existing approaches are often limited in number shape-change features they can express. This paper introduces MorpheesPlug , a toolkit creating SCIs that covers seven eleven identified literature. is comprised (1) set six standardized widgets express with user-definable parameters; (2) software 3D-modeling create 3D-printable...
3D printing technology can be used to rapidly prototype the look and feel of objects. However, objects produced are passive. There has been increasing interest in making these interactive, yet they often require assembling components or complex calibration. In this paper, we contribute AirTouch, a technique that enables designers fabricate touch-sensitive with minimal assembly calibration using pneumatic sensing. AirTouch-enabled printed as single structure consumer-level printer. AirTouch...
Over the last 20 years, Latin American Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community has been working to shed light on how diverse populations in region are adopting, using, and making sense of computational technologies. America's tense socio-political context, plurality languages, collectivist culture, historical relationship with Global North make it a unique rich space for HCI research. Considering growing number studies about communities emergent efforts contribute literature, we propose...
Researchers have developed various tools and techniques towards the vision of on-demand fabrication custom, interactive devices. Recent work has 3D-printed artefacts like speakers, electromagnetic actuators, hydraulic robots. However, these are non-trivial to instantiate as they require post-fabrication mechanical– or electronic assembly. We introduce AirLogic: a technique create electronics-free, objects by embedding pneumatic input, logic processing, output widgets in 3D-printable models....
Rapid prototyping is an important tool for designers, but many fabrication techniques are slow and create bulky components requiring multiple machines processes to achieve desired device shape electronic functionality. Prior work explored ways ease fabricating shapes or designing electronics, we focus on creating electrical pathways at the same time from a single material machine. LaCir leverages three-layered, laser-cuttable incorporate circuits into structural substrate of design using...
Interactive 3D models have the potential to enhance accessibility and education, but can be complex time-consuming produce. We present Blowhole, a technique for embedding blowing-activated tags into 3D-printed add interactivity. Requiring no special printing techniques, components, or assembly working on consumer-level printers, Blowhole adds acoustically resonant cavities interior of model with unobtrusive openings at surface object. A gentle blow hole produces unique sound that identifies...
Touchscreens provide a platform for adaptable and versatile user interfaces making them popular choice modern smart devices. However, touchscreens lack physicality. Existing solutions to add tangible devices often require complicated assembly or occlude part of the touchscreen. We propose ClipWidgets: 3D-printed modular UI extensions smartphones. ClipWidgets uses conical mirror custom phone case redirect field view rear camera smartphone phone's periphery. This allows optically sense input...
While pressing can enable a wide variety of interesting applications, most press sensing techniques operate only at close distances and rely on fragile electronics. We present EchoTube, robust, modular, simple, inexpensive system for low-resolution events distance. EchoTube works by emitting ultrasonic pulses inside flexible tube which acts as waveguide detecting reflections caused deformations in the tube. is deployable situations: flexibility tubes allows them to be wrapped around affixed...
In recent years, it has become increasingly accessible to create interactive applications on screen-based devices. Contrary this ease, and despite their numerous benefits, creating tangible devices is a task reserved for experts, requiring extensive knowledge electronics, manual assemblies. While digital fabrication equipment holds promise alleviate situation, the majority of research exploring avenue still present significant barriers non-experts, other-domain experts construct devices,...
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease that affects over 450 millions individuals in the world. From this derives another among which diabetic foot syndrome, major complication. This syndrome can cause ulcers on extremities of patients, because wrong classification and an inadequate treatment, ends amputation or death. Measurement wound originated from specially determination wounds depth, plays important role cases like diagnosis, treatment to apply. article explores size depth using...
In recent years, 3D-printing technology has become widely accessible to non-experts and hobbyists, enabling them fabricate objects of varying geometries. contrast this new ease producing forms, fabricating that can sense user input traditionally requires the assembly complex circuits physical parts. With my work, I explore what call \pap: 3D-printed interactive without requiring any post-print activities such as or calibration. approach by externally sensing how user's actions interact with...
