Background: Studies examining the association between hyperoxia exposure after resuscitation from cardiac arrest and clinical outcomes have reported conflicting results. Our objective was to test hypothesis that early postresuscitation is associated with poor neurological outcome. Methods: This a multicenter prospective cohort study. We included adult patients who were mechanically ventilated received targeted temperature management return of spontaneous circulation. excluded caused by...

Laboratory studies suggest elevated blood pressure after resuscitation from cardiac arrest may be protective; however, clinical data are limited. We sought to test the hypothesis that postresuscitation mean arterial is associated with neurologic outcome.Preplanned analysis of a prospective cohort study.Six academic hospitals in United States.Adult, nontraumatic patients treated targeted temperature management return spontaneous circulation.Mean was measured noninvasively circulation and...

Abstract Healthcare employees were tested for antibodies against severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Among 734 employees, the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 was 1.6%. Employees with heavy disease 2019 (COVID-19) exposure had similar antibody as those limited or no exposure. Guidelines PPE use seem effective preventing COVID-19 infection in healthcare workers.

We seek to test the efficacy of noninvasive sphenopalatine ganglion block for treatment acute anterior headache in emergency department (ED) using a novel delivery device. We conducted randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating bupivacaine anesthesia or global-based headache. This study was completed 2 large academic EDs. Bupivacaine normal saline solution delivered intranasally (0.3 mL per side) with Tx360 device. Pain and nausea were measured at 0, 5, 15 minutes by 100-mm...

The rate of bacterial coinfection with SARS-CoV-2 is poorly defined. decision to administer antibiotics early in the course infection depends on likelihood coinfection. We performed a retrospective chart review all patients admitted through emergency department confirmed over 6-week period large healthcare system United States. Blood and respiratory culture results were abstracted adjudicated by multiple authors. primary outcome was bacteremia. We secondarily looked define clinical or...

Background and Objectives: Hospitals clinicians increasingly are reimbursed based on quality of care through financial incentives tied to value-based purchasing. Patient-centered care, measured patient experience surveys, is a key component many incentive programs. We hypothesize that operational aspects such as wait times an important element emergency department (ED) experience. The objectives this paper determine (1) the association between ED (2) whether comments show awareness times....

Abstract Background Limited data have described the testing patterns and outcomes of adults (≥18 years) with acute respiratory illness (ARI) in emergency department setting. Methods This prospective cohort study includes patients ARI from a program sponsored by Centers for Disease Control Prevention entitled Respiratory Virus Laboratory Emergency Department Network Surveillance (RESP-LENS) August 2021 until March 2024 (91 hospitals). Patients ARIs were identified weekly electronic...

Abstract Background Patients with COVID‐19 can present to the emergency department (ED) at any point during spectrum of illness, making it difficult predict what level care patient will ultimately require. Admission a ward bed, which is subsequently upgraded within hours an intensive unit (ICU) represents inability appropriately patient's course illness. Predicting patients require ICU 24 would allow admissions be managed more appropriately. Methods This was retrospective study adults...

Background: Identifying low-risk acute heart failure patients safe for discharge from the emergency department is a major unmet need.
