Automated speciated mercury measurements were made at a rural (Dexter, MI) and an urban (Detroit, site in Michigan during selected times from 1999 to 2002 assess the concentrations of elemental (Hg0), reactive gaseous (RGM), particulate (Hgp) these environments. Here we present first-ever reported values for RGM Michigan. Median 2.21−2.93 pg m-3 Dexter 3−11 higher Detroit 6.41−22.0 m-3. Maximum 38.7 270 observed Detroit, respectively. Measured RGM/Hg0 ratios range 0.04−11.60% indicating that...
We conducted a panel study to investigate seasonal variations in concentrations of airborne PM2.5 and PM10 the effects on respiratory health community near cement factory; Chilanga; Zambia. A 63 55 participants aged 21 59 years from located at edge factory within 1 km control 18 respectively; were followed up for three climatic seasons July 2015 February 2016. Symptom diary questionnaires completed lung function measurements taken daily 14 days each seasons. Simultaneously, ambient air...
Long-term atmospheric mercury measurements at Underhill, VT (VT99), and Huntington Forest, NY (NY20), from 1992 to 2014 2005 2014, respectively, were used determine concentration trends using Mann–Kendall's tau test with Sen's slope estimator. These data, measured generally downwind of large Hg sources in the Midwestern United States, provide longest record ambient concentrations available States. At VT99, gaseous element (GEM), oxidized (GOM), particle-bound (PBM) declined rates −1.8, −3.2,...
Abstract Ab initio restricted Hartree Fock and density functional theory (DFT), as well semiempirical Austin model 1 parametrization method 3 molecular orbital calculations were carried out for a range of chlorinated dioxin molecules to obtain descriptors such HOMO–LUMO gaps (HOMO = highest occupied orbital, LUMO lowest unoccupied orbital) partial atomic charges. The gap is an indicator stability in molecule: the larger greater molecule toward further reaction. These indicate that with...
An analytical method combining thermal analysis with isotope dilution cold vapor inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, ID-CV-ICP-MS, was developed to study mercury in particulate matter samples collected urban Detroit, MI. We used this quantify NIST 1633b “mercury fly ash standard” and determined an average concentration of 0.139 ± 0.009 μg g−1 (RSD 6%), which within the certified range 0.141 0.019 by National Institute Standards Technology using atomic absorption spectrometry. The...
