Two new records of Jumellea for the island Mauritius (Indian Ocean), J. exilis and rossii are reported from incorrectly attributed past collections. Sampling over last four decades on recorded only a few localities exilis, while is known single collection. Recent surveys confirm that very rare, qualifying as Critically Endangered according to IUCN Red List Criteria, should be considered probably Extinct. An updated key provided. Threats besetting species other orchids in general discussed...
Morphological differences and identification of Jumellea rossii fragrans (Orchidaceae) in Reunion Island : implications for conservation. — Conservation strategies are not possible when there is confusion the taxonomic status a group plants. Such makes difficult systematic biologists to identify functional biological entities. This particularly true case species that diversified fast due adaptive radiation plants from oceanic islands. It certain orchids Island. Among them, “Faham” complex...
We present a taxonomic revision of the genus Jumellea (Angraecinae; Orchidaceae) in Mascarenes based on morphological study and field observations. examined 328 specimens mostly from MAU, P REU, recognise nine species. provide key, descriptions, distributions, habitats, phenologies conservation assessments following Red List categories criteria (IUCN). All species are Réunion with two being endemic there, five have been confirmed Mauritius, none them endemic. The single recorded for...
Jumellea pailleri (Orchidaceae), a new endemic species from Comoro ArchipelagoBackground and aims -Jumellea F.Rakotoar.(Orchidaceae), the Archipelago is described illustrated. Methods -Description comparison of herbarium material Réunion Islands University (REU) have been done.Key results -Different other Island, J. resembles to bathiei Schltr.and ibityana Schltr., which are Madagascar.A key identify provided. The illustrated, its distribution given conservation status.
The genus Jumellea Schltr. is revised for the Comoros Archipelago (Grande Comore, Anjouan, Mohéli, Mayotte). Six species occur on islands: anjouanensis (Finet) H. Perrier, J. arachnantha (Rchb. f.) Schltr., arborescens comorensis maxillarioides and pailleri F.Rakotoar. These are not same as Schlechter covered; arborescens, (Ridl.) were added to list whereas phalaenophora was removed since its presence in archipelago doubtful. gladiator a synonym of (Rchb.f.) Three endemic three other also...
