When the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is treated as a separate phase, ITZ volume fraction plays an essential role in determining physico-mechanical properties of concrete. The intention present paper to develop numerical algorithm for concrete with spheroidal aggregate particles. By applying contact function two particles and introducing periodic boundary conditions, distribution various sizes within cubic element implemented. Monte Carlo method then adopted evaluate fraction. After...

This paper explores image analysis techniques that provide insight into the nature of pore structure as observed in backscattered electron images polished sections. On basis mathematical morphology, size distribution is characterised and critical determined for cement paste at different hydration time. The influence resolution investigated. permeability can be predicted according to General Effective Media (GEM) theory. Comparison between estimation experiment results reveals good agreement.

Rice husk is an agricultural by-product worldwide in large quantities available. This a suitable biomass source for energy production. Compared to other by-products, the burned rice presents high yield of ash (about 20%) mainly composed silica that will be mostly amorphous when properly incinerated. Extensive research past three decades has allowed introduction (RHA) as supplementary raw material cement-based products, whereby significant improvements strength and durability can achieved,...

As a composite material, the performance of concrete materials can be expected to depend on properties interfaces between its two major components, aggregate and cement paste. The microstructure at interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is assumed different from bulk material. In general, conventional have been found favoured by optimum packing density aggregate. Particle size common denominator in such studies. Size segregation ITZ among binder particles fresh state, observed simulation studies...
