Abstract Objectives Implicit bias is common and thought to drive discriminatory behaviour. Having previously demonstrated discrimination against specific applicant demographics by academic radiology departments in a simulated resident selection process, the authors sought better understand relationship between implicit discrimination, as well potential mechanisms for their mitigation. Methods A total of 51 faculty reviewers at three departments, who had participated 2017 audit study which...

We present a rare case of pediatric scurvy in 9-year-old male who presented with nontraumatic knee pain. MRI was obtained due to the puzzling presentation. demonstrated systemic bone marrow abnormality which led conversation clinician and further elucidation an extremely narrow diet lacking sufficient vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Diagnosis confirmed biochemically undetectable ascorbic acid level clinically compatible exam history. This highlights thought process for unexpected on MRI.

Intussusception and acute appendicitis are part of a differential diagnosis for abdominal pain vomiting in the pediatric population. We describe unique case combining appendiceal intussusception with concurrent appendicitis, or “appendi-sception.” A 1-year-old boy presented 1 day fussiness, vomiting, red, gelatinous stool. Initial on ultrasound was routine ileocolic nonvisualization appendix. However, after failed air enema decompression, patient taken to operating room where appendix...

Ependymomas are rare glial tumors that comprise 10% of intracranial pediatric malignancies. Primary central nervous system malignancies can rarely metastasize extracranially. When metastases occur, it usually does so in the setting surgical manipulation and spread through blood, lymph, or artificial means, for example, a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. We describe presentation progression an 18-month-old boy diagnosed with ependymoma. Initially managed surgery, radiation, shunt placement...

Mesenteric cysts are rare intra-abdominal masses in the pediatric population, with chylolymphatic variant comprising only 7.3% of all abdominal cysts. These can have a varied clinical presentation, ranging from asymptomatic cystic to intestinal obstruction. We report 16-year-old female, who presented acute pain and vomiting, was diagnosed an mass midgut volvulus accompanied by classical "whirlpool sign" on imaging. She underwent laparoscopic exploration, which revealed large mesenteric cyst...
