Natural color polymorphisms are widespread across animal species and usually have a simple genetic basis. This makes them an ideal system to study the evolutionary mechanisms responsible for maintaining biodiversity. In some populations of intertidal snail Littorina fabalis , variation in shell has remained stable years, but unknown. Previous studies suggest that this stability could be caused by frequency-dependent sexual selection, hypothesis not been tested. We analyzed polymorphism...

The article describes a working prototype of an automated laboratory setup for intertidal mollusk keeping with tidal cycle imitation. currently consists two groups five aquariums. At high tide, water is gravity fed into the aquariums from common tank; at low drained collection tank. Water transferred between tanks using special pump. control unit networked Arduino Mega board and Nano boards. responsible environmental monitoring systems, data logging, automatic seawater change, as well...

Trophic relationships reflect the peculiarities of functioning communities aquatic organisms and analysis their structure dynamics can be used to improve fisheries management assess state marine ecosystems. Populations at margins species' range have particular adaptations, including feeding habits, extreme conditions, which makes them a convenient model object for studying possible consequences ecosystem changes under influence global factors. The long-term infestation of bithyniid snails (Gastropoda: Bithyniidae) with trematode parthenites the Opisthorchidae family in floodplain Ob River near city Novosibirsk 1994–2018 years was estimated. It has been shown that recent years, level bitiniid infection trematodes increased from 0.5% (1994–2008 years) to 6.29% (in 2017).

Abstract The prevalence of infection with trematode parthenitae was studied in Littorina obtusata littoral periwinkles different shell color genotypes. Activities genes responsible for a purple or orange single-pigment background coloration not found to affect the periwinkles. In L. yellow-purple and pattern white pigment spots on shell, Microphallus piriformes M. pygmaeus lower than theoretical expectation. purple, orange, stripes did differ from that unstripped differences were presumably...

Understanding the patterns of microevolutionary processes involves a wide range population genetic studies on different species. However, number genetically studied species is limited due to significant methodological difficulties in testing conditionality various traits. Developing phenetics may become an alternative, which allows considering large new subject development morphologically and genetically-based system describe variability classification phenotypic Gastropods are classic...

We studied the reproductive behaviour associated with mate choice by size in three species of White Sea molluscs genus Littorina—L. saxatilis, L. obtusata and fabalis. Three behavioural patterns were revealed after a comparative analysis male snails. The males obtusata, regardless their size, could all females but preferred to larger ones. fabalis chose own or larger. saxatilis mated approximately size. In first case (L. obtusata), there is free exchange genes between groups population....
