Abstract Gilthead sea bream exposed to the cold show multiple physiological alterations, particularly in liver. A typical cold‐stress response was reproduced gilthead acclimated 20°C (Warm group) when water temperature lowered 8°C (Cold group). After 10 days, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances liver had increased by 50%, and nitric oxide twofold. This indicates that lipid peroxidation oxidative stress occurred. Protein profiles of from fish warm environments were obtained 2‐DE....

Amino acids (AA) and IGF1 have been demonstrated to play essential roles in protein synthesis fish muscle growth. The myoblast cell culture is useful for studying regulation, omics data contributed enormously understanding its molecular biology. However, our knowledge, no study has performed the large-scale sequencing of fish-cultured cells stimulated with pro-growth signals. In this work, we obtained transcriptome microRNAome pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus)-cultured myotubes treated AA or...

Here we examined the use of stable isotopes, [¹³C]starch and [¹⁵N]protein, as dietary tracers to study carbohydrate assimilation distribution protein utilisation, respectively, by rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The capacity glucose uptake tissues was studied, first, varying digestibility carbohydrate-rich diets (30 % carbohydrate), using raw starch gelatinised (GS) and, second, observing effects two regimens activity (voluntary swimming, control; sustained swimming at 1·3 body...

Sustained swimming induces beneficial effects on growth and energy metabolism in some fish species. However, the absence of a standardized exercise regimen that guarantees an optimal response to physical activity is due anatomical, behavioral, physiological differences among species, different conditions tests applied, which are especially notable for early stages cultured The objective this study was assess metabolic responses European sea bass submitted continuous moderate exposure,...

Moderate exercise enhances fish growth, although underlying physiological mechanisms are not fully known. Here we performed a proteomic and metabolic study in white (WM) red (RM) muscle of gilthead sea bream juveniles swimming at 1.5 body lengths per second. Continuous for four weeks enhanced growth without increasing food intake. Exercise affected energy stores by decreasing lipid glycogen contents WM RM, respectively. Protein synthesis capacity (RNA/protein), use (estimated lipid-δ(13)C...

The endocrine system regulates growth mainly through the hormone (GH)/insulin-like factors (IGFs) axis and, although exercise promotes growth, little is known about its modulation of these factors. aim this work was to characterize effects 5 wk moderate sustained swimming on GH-IGFs in gilthead sea bream fingerlings. Plasma IGF-I/GH ratio and tissue gene expression total IGF-I three splice variants, IGF-II, IGF binding proteins, two GH receptors, downstream molecules were analyzed. Fish...

Abstract The tolerance of fish to fasting offers a model study the regulatory mechanisms and changes produced when feeding is restored. Gilthead sea bream juveniles were exposed 21-days period followed by 2 h 7-days refeeding. Fasting provoked decrease in body weight, somatic indexes, muscle gene expression members Gh/Igf system, signaling molecules ( akt , tor downstream effectors), proliferation marker pcna myogenic factors, myostatin, proteolytic such as cathepsins or calpains, while most...

For developing efficient diets, two sets of experiments examined whether the use and allocation dietary protein can be traced by labelling with stable isotopes (15N 13C) in culture fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss Sparus aurata). In first experiment, natural abundance tissue distribution these were determined, measuring δ13C δ15N values isotopic ratio mass spectrometry, fingerlings (14–17 g) adapted to diets differing percentage meal replacement plant sources. both species, greater tissues higher...
