Abstract Purpose The aim of the study was to report clinical features, contributing factors and outcome patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19)‐associated mucormycosis (CAM). Methods A cross‐sectional descriptive multicentre conducted on biopsy‐proven RT‐PCR‐confirmed COVID‐19 from April September 2020. Demographics, time interval between mucormycosis, underlying systemic diseases, course outcomes were collected analysed. Results Fifteen rhino‐orbital observed. median age 52 years...
Emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a major healthcare threat. Apparently, the novel (SARS-CoV-2) armed by special abilities to spread and dysregulate immune mechanisms. The likelihood oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) development in COVID-19 patients with list attributable risk factors for oral infections has not yet been investigated. We here aim investigate prevalence, causative agents antifungal susceptibility pattern OPC Iranian patients.A total 53 hospitalised were...
The fungi Trichophyton mentagrophytes and T interdigitale account for significant amount of dermatophytosis cases worldwide. These two dermatophytes form a species complex have number ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region genotypes, allowing simultaneous identification strain typing. Our aim was to describe the geographic distribution mentagrophytes/T ITS genotypes find an association between clinical presentations respective infections. We performed rDNA sequencing in 397...
Background Considering the importance of differential diagnosis infectious otitis externa (OE), a stepwise PCR-based assay using universal and genus- or species-specific primers for detection/identification most prevalent bacterial fungal OE was developed evaluated on ear aspiration specimens clinically suspected patients. Methods Materials A total 120 with otomycosis suspicion were subjected to manual DNA extraction phenol–chloroform after tissue digestion lysis buffer. The multiplex PCR...
Since December 2019, when a cluster of pneumonia cases due to SARS-CoV-2 initially emerged in Wuhan city and then rapidly spread throughout the world, necessity for data concerning clinical para-clinical features Iranian patients with COVID-19 was highlighted. Therefore, we aimed compare clinical, laboratory evidences deceased survival group. We extracted regarding 233 laboratory-confirmed from Buali Hospital Iran; clinical/para-clinical inflammatory indexes were collected analyzed. The...
A study conducted around Urmia Lake, Iran, investigated the impact of dust storms on fungal concentrations in air. Researchers collected samples over a year, analyzing variations during dusty and normal days. The average concentration was found to be 436.2 CFU/m3, with Cladosporium cladosporioides, Penicillium chrysogenum, iridis being most prevalent species. Notably, days averaged 967.65 which is 3.6 times higher than (267.10 CFU/m3). total 61 species were detected days, compared 45...
Introduction. Given the limited number of candidaemia studies in Iran, profile yeast species causing bloodstream infections (BSIs), especially adults, remains limited. Although biochemical assays are widely used developing countries, they produce erroneous results, for rare species.Aim. We aimed to assess BSIs and compare accuracy Vitek 2 system 21-plex PCR.Methodology. Yeast blood isolates were retrospectively collected from patients recruited two tertiary care training hospitals Tehran...
Introduction. Limited data regarding the epidemiology and susceptibility profiles of cryptococcosis are available in Middle East.Aim. Our study aimed to evaluate molecular diversity, mating types antifungal pattern Cryptococcus species (n=14) isolated from 320 suspected patients with cryptococcosis.Methodology. The URA5 gene was subjected restriction fragment length polymorphism sequence analysis. In addition, vitro testing performed by Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) M27-A4...
Background: Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are a significant cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with hematological malignancies. Given the considerable prevalence consequences IFIs, hence revealing exact infections, their rate, associated risk factors, complications could contribute to reducing both financial life costs, choosing targeted antifungal treatment, avoiding unnecessary toxic treatments individuals who not suffering from mycoses.
 Materials Methods: This...
The transition of Candida albicans from yeast to hyphae cause the attachment epithelial cells, forming biofilm and invasion. Therefore, effect Pediococcus acidilactici on morphogenesis pathogenesis C. were examined. Inhibitory activity P. species growth was investigated inhibition formation measured by XTT method. Also, expression seven genes as: Agglutinin-like protein 1 (ALS1,3), hyphal cell-wall (HWP1), secreted aspartyl proteinase (SAP4,6), Enhanced filamentous (EFG1) activated (EAP1)...
Aim: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among healthcare workers (HCWs) in Isfahan, Iran. Materials & methods: HCWs COVID-19 wards three referral hospitals Isfahan were screened and tested for infection. Results: In total, 102 whose median age was 43 years old. Moreover, 21 (20.5%) them had a history suspected infection with SARS-CoV2, mostly (66.6%) without any symptoms while six (28.5%) suffered from relatively mild diseases one (4.7%)...
In natural conditions, inhaled fungi are considered a part of the microflora nasal cavities and sinuses. However, subsequent to protracted use corticosteroids antibacterial agents, suppression immune system by chemotherapy, poor ventilation, these can become pathogens. Fungal colonization in nose paranasal sinuses is prevalent medical issue immunocompetent immunosuppressed patients. this study, we aimed categorize fungal rhinosinusitis (FRS) among patients identified etiologic agents disease...
In vitro interactions between tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor, and fluconazole, itraconazole, caspofungin, or anidulafungin were evaluated against Candida auris, C. albicans, parapsilosis, glabrata (each five strains). Tacrolimus-itraconazole, tacrolimus-caspofungin, tacrolimus-fluconazole combinations resulted in synergistic 95%, 90%, 60% of isolates, respectively. However, tacrolimus-anidulafungin only 35% effect. A combination tacrolimus itraconazole was most potent with synergy 100%...
