Background: The focus of most anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions has been on replacing the anteromedial bundle and not posterolateral bundle. Hypothesis: Anatomic two-bundle reconstruction restores knee kinematics more closely to normal than does single-bundle reconstruction. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Ten cadaveric knees were subjected external loading conditions: 1) a 134-N tibial load 2) combined rotatory 5-N·m internal torque 10-N·m valgus torque....

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be anatomically divided into anteromedial (AM) and posterolateral (PL) bundles. Current ACL reconstruction techniques focus primarily on reproducing the AM bundle, but are insufficient in response to rotatory loads. objective of this study was determine distribution situ force between two bundles when knee is subjected tibial Ten cadaveric knees (50+/-10 years) were tested using a robotic/universal force-moment sensor (UFS) testing system. Objectives: To determine whether the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS), a validated frailty tool, was associated with discharge destination. Secondary objectives were to CFS in-hospital complications and length of stay. Design: This is 5-year retrospective cohort study. Setting: The study took place at an academic Level 1 trauma center. Patients/Participants: All patients 65 years age older admitted isolated hip fracture included (N = 423). Intervention: Preadmission determined as part routine...

Significance The Hv1 voltage-gated proton channels are important for various physiological functions that include the extrusion of acid from cells, oxidative bursts in phagocytes, and immune response. A lack structural information under conditions has left many unanswered questions about mechanism conduction. We employed molecular dynamics simulations to generate models open closed states channel presence applied membrane potentials, without any initial assumptions on position voltage sensor...

Abstract Background With a shortage of geriatricians and an aging population, strategies are needed to optimise the distribution across different healthcare settings (acute care, rehabilitation community clinics). The perspectives knowledge users on staffing in unknown. We aimed understand acceptability feasibility (including barriers facilitators) implementing geriatrician-led comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) acute rehabilitation, clinic settings. Introduction We sought to explore healthcare providers (HCPs)' perceptions of and experiences with stigma during the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada Singapore. Methods conducted a qualitative study (May 2020–February 2021) HCPs Singapore developed semi-structured interview guide rooted Health Stigma Discrimination Framework (HSDF). recruited participants online through word mouth via newsletters, blogs social media. Participants were eligible participate if they worked as provider or COVID-19....

With a shortage of geriatricians, the appropriate distribution geriatricians across healthcare settings (e.g., acute care, rehabilitation, or community clinics) is unknown. Our objective was to determine which setting(s) should preferentially staff be most economically attractive for Canadian system. We conducted cost-effectiveness analysis using two-dimensional microsimulation model. The model simulated population frail adults aged ≥ 65 years. simulation done over lifetime horizon from...

Intratumoral heterogeneity plays a pivotal role in cancer evolution, providing the substrate for adaptation to selective pressures, including treatment with chemotherapy. Here, we show that micro-RNA regulation of variance expression DNA repair protein methyl- guanine methyl transferase (MGMT) contributes this and acquired therapeutic resistance. In cell lines derived from glioblastomas, most common form primary brain tumor, standard-of-care temozolomide chemotherapy triggers feed-forward...

Background In microsimulation models of diseases with an early, acute phase requiring short cycle lengths followed by a chronic phase, fixed cycles may lead to computational inefficiency. Examples include epidemic or resource constraint early where long-term economic consequences are interest for individuals surviving the ultimately obtaining resource. this article, we demonstrate methods improve efficiency in such scenarios. Furthermore, show that care must be taken when applying these...

We reveal that the axial stiffness of amyloid fibrils is inversely correlated with their cross-sectional area. Because fibrils' determined by hydrogen bond (H-bond) density a linear correlation, our finding implies larger radial sizes are generally softer and have lower H-bond networks. In silico calculations show stiffness–size relationship is, indeed, driven packing densities residues H-bonds. Our results suggest polypeptide chains which form narrow cross sections can optimize in fibrillar...
