Abstract Few studies have investigated the ichthyofauna of streams in upper Purus River basin, hampering efforts to understand diversity these numerous bodies water. This study presents first inventory Purus-Antimary interfluve, southwestern Amazonia. The was based on data compiled from various sources, including online repositories, scientific articles, and fish collected four a protected area. We assessed species richness, distribution area, conservation status anthropogenic threats....
Studies that organize lists of species are essential and act as the starting point for future discussions on ecology fish in environments poorly studied. The present paper describes assemblage hydrographic basin Chasqueiro Stream, an important component Mirim Lagoon system. Fish were collected during one year period between August/2012 July/2013 six sites, comprising three biotopes: upstream, reservoir downstream. A total 22,853 specimens collected, distributed into 83 species, 20 families,...
Pseudis minuta is abundant in a variety of aquatic environments the Pampa domain. Therefore, it can be considered good model for testing hypotheses on environmental heterogeneity and influence climate activity anurans. In this study, we examined spatial distribution pattern P. terms microhabitats abiotic factors seasonal fluctuations abundance species. Samples were collected monthly from April 2008 to May 2009 wetlands coastal dunes Lagoa do Peixe National Park. A total 112 specimens...
The Amazon floodplain is home to an extremely high diversity of fish, with lakes playing important role in the establishment this biological richness. These lacustrine environments are subject constant fluctuations caused by annual flood pulse, local factors and other regional patterns also contributing variation fish community structure. present study verified how (depth transparency water, size species composition macrophyte stands) (spatial distribution stands hydrological phase)...
Fish farming is increasingly important globally and nationally, playing a crucial role in fish production for human consumption. Monitoring microbiological chemical contaminants from water discharge essential to mitigate the risk of contaminating This study analyzes physicochemical E. coli parameters tambacu muscles (Colossoma macropomum × Piaractus mesopotamicus) Western Maranhão, Brazil. It also includes qualitative characterization zooplankton ponds. Samples were collected ponds dam...
The present study reports the length-weight relationships (LWRs) of three cichlids (Crenicichla lepidota, Cichlasoma portalegrense and Geophagus brasiliensis) collected in a system pools largest estuarine island Patos lagoon, southern Brazil. Fishes were sampled during random field trips performed from April 2015 to 2016, using beach seine (net 5 × 2 m; mesh size mm) hand net (diameter 45 cm, mm). LWRs for C. are presented herein first time.
Redescription of Proteocephalus jarara (Fuhrmann, 1927) (Cestoda: Proteocephalidae) parasite Bothrops alternatus Dum., Bibr.& 1854, from Brazil.-Specimens collected in jararaca Brazil and relevant types are redescribed figured. The species shows the following morphoanatomical characters: gravid uterus extending medulla to dorsal cortex; arrangement uterine branches cross section fan-like; vitelline follicles a latero-dorsal position attached internal longitudinal musculature into both cortex...
Feeding of Cyphocharax voga (Hensel, 1869) (Characiformes, Curimatidae) in Corrientes Stream, Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The species is distributed from the hydrographic basin Paraguay River and lower Paraná up to coastal systems South America. stream sets boundary between Turuçu Pelotas counties has not been a focus detailed studies so far. aim this paper was study C. feeding process for better understanding its diet at site. Thirty-two specimens were collected December March 2005,...
Abstract: The Araguaia River basin has the highest fish biodiversity within Cerrado biome (Brazilian savannah), with many endemic and threatened species by human activities. Despite growing efforts to catalog Neotropical freshwater biodiversity, regions are still undersampled. Our objective is complement information about stream in two hydrographic basins Cerrado. We sampled 72 streams 50 m stretch Upper (n = 32) Middle Rio das Mortes 40) basins. collected 14,887 individuals distributed 137...
We analyzed the length-weight relation (LWRs) of 14 species fish, sampled in 30 sandy beaches along Acre river, encompassing approximately 300 km river between municipalities Brasileia and Rio Branco, state, Brazil, during draught period 2017 (August September). For sampling, we used a picaré type trawl with 9 m length, 2 height 5 mm mesh opposing knots, day night periods. New information was made available for eight fish species.
The length-weight relationship (LWRs) was estimated for eight fish species collected from oxbow lakes on the floodplain of middle Purus River in western Brazilian Amazonia January, May, and September 2012. specimens were using 12 gillnets (80 m length × 4 height, meshes between 1.5 cm 12.0 cm), which set during both diurnal nocturnal periods. had allometric coefficients (b) 2.92 3.37, correlation (r2) ranging 0.954 to 0.993 we highlight that work presents new data literature.
Abstract: Despite increasing efforts in recent years to catalog the fish diversity of Amazonian rivers, many regions are still under-sampled, and sandy beach environments particularly poorly understood. The present study focused on a 300 km stretch Acre river, southwestern Amazon basin, where we sampled 30 beaches separated by mean interval 10 km. We collected 15,329 representing 80 species, 26 families, nine orders. Characiformes were most abundant order, providing 88.24% individuals...
The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) and nutria (Myocastor coypus) are herbivorous semi-aquatic rodents. Although these rodents occur in sympatry southern South America, little is known about how the two species interact relationship to food resources. In this context, aim of study was analyze resource overlap, feeding strategy diversity diet capybaras nutria. A micro-histological analysis feces used diets. total 48 plant belonging 10 families were identified H. hydrochaeris, a 49 14 M....
