Abstract Some cathodic protected pipelines installed along high voltage transmission lines have been presenting corrosion problems. The causes of this attributed to alternating current (AC) interferences coming from and/or electric supplying systems. There are several criteria adopted by literature evaluate the probability AC corrosion. However, these contradictory and inefficient, since failures due occurred in which presented electrochemical parameters within acceptable limits those...

A procedure is proposed to accurately model thin wires in lossy media by finite element analysis. It based on the determination of a suitable width vicinity wire, which strongly depends wire radius yield accurate results. The approach well adapted analysis grounding systems. numerical results application with suitably chosen are compared both analytical and those computed commercial package for systems, showing very good agreement.

These studies present the electromagnetic analyses of different configurations so called "Integrated Production Umbilical," or simply Umbilical Cables. Modern Cables can have more than 4 independent 3-phase power circuits as well steel tubes. There is no 2-D symmetry for these cable and 3-D simulations are very undesirable due to length. The adopted methodology evaluate performance a combination 2-D-finite element (coupled with electric circuit) transposition technique. results shown that...

The 3-D finite-element method is applied to compute conductive couplings in a transmission line right of way. domain under analysis composed several underground structures, such as ground wires high-voltage towers, coated pipeline section, and steel-reinforced masonry enclosure. A nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition procedure employed overcome the modeling difficulties this particular problem. preliminary test problem validate also discussed.

This paper presents a case study related to the electric and magnetic fields generated by an upgraded high voltage overhead transmission line in urban environment. Consideration of risk perception recommends previous analysis fields. A computational model based on charge simulation method calculate field Biot-Savart law is outlined. Model validation done measuring neighborhood existing prior upgrade. Results with new configuration were assessed verify compliance exposure limits recommended...

Abstract One of the current and important challenges faced by cathodic protection professionals is to access corrosion probability cathodically protected buried pipes subject alternating (AC) interference (i.e., AC corrosion). In practice, it very common for be adjacent high voltage electrical power lines electric energy distribution systems. These systems can produce stray in soil or induced pipe. This cause severe on which are supposed catholically protected. There several criteria cited...

A procedure to take into account the unbounded nature of three dimensional domain employed in finite element analysis grounding systems is presented. It consists applying non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on electric potential calculated according a point current source approximation. The numerical scheme was tested an example, and showed very good agreement with solution given same problem by integral method.

This work shows an evaluation methodology for the occurrence of electromagnetic interference in signaling and control equipment a DC electrified railway under contingency conditions which traction rectifying unit works with 6 pulses instead 12 its normal operation. Thus, can result from direct interaction magnetic fields close to rails as well resultant induction cables that interconnect equipment.

Abstract Corrosion by alternating current in buried pipelines has been investigated for several years since the first AC-induced corrosion failure 60’s. After this occurrence, many research groups have studied phenomena order to understand mechanism and purpose reliable criteria access probability of pipelines. However, proposed are contradictory inefficient because they consider influence direct stray currents separately. In a criterion corrosion, it is necessary coupling between DC AC...
