ABSTRACT The performance characteristics and the near wake of a model wind turbine were investigated experimentally. tested is three‐bladed horizontal axis type with an upstream rotor 0.90 m diameter. measurements conducted at various yaw angles, freestream speed about 10 s −1 , tip ratio was varied from 0.5 to 12. time‐averaged streamwise velocity field in measured different ratios downstream locations. As expected, it found that power thrust coefficients decrease increasing angle. loss 3%...
Abstract In this study, the wind speed characteristics and energy potential in three selected locations southeastern part of Nigeria were investigated using data that span between 24 37 years measured at a height 10 m. It was shown annual mean m for Enugu, Owerri Onitsha are 5.42, 3.36 3.59 m/s, respectively, while power densities 96.98, 23.23 28.34 W/m 2 , respectively. further value most probable 5.47, 3.72 3.50 m/s Onitsha, respective carrying maximum 6.48, 4.33 3.90 m/s. The performance...
Lack of access to electricity is one the major impediments economic development and provision public services in rural/off-grid areas developing countries. This study examines drivers impacts rural electrification with Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems Ethiopia from a cross-sectional 605 households direct field examination 137 solar PVs/lanterns. Multiple linear regression econometric analyses were used analyse data. Findings showed that use PV growing its impact appears significant. A...
This study analyses the determinants of rural household energy choices for cooking and lighting in southern Ethiopia by using data from a cross-sectional 660 sample households direct observational studies. Chi-square tests Multivariate Probit (MVP) model were used to analyse data. The findings showed that most depend on fuelwood (90.70%) while only 3.14% use clean fuels as primary sources cooking. In contrast, 50% kerosene, 29% electricity, 19% solar, 1.98% biogas sources. revealed...
Abstract. The wake characteristics behind a yawed model wind turbine exposed to different customized inflow conditions are investigated. Laser Doppler anemometry is used measure the flow in two planes at x∕D = 3 and 6, while yaw angle varied from γ=-30∘ 0∘ +30∘. objective assess influence of grid-generated turbulence shear on mean turbulent components. observed be asymmetric with respect negative positive angles. A counter-rotating vortex pair detected creating kidney-shaped velocity deficit...
This paper assesses the effects of mass flow rate on performance a commercial Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system in dynamic tropical environment Ghana. A water-based flat plate PVT and conventional photovoltaic (PV) were installed side-by-side roof top Kumasi, The electrical, exergy performances studied for rates from 0.025 kg/s 0.083 kg/s. For specific solar irradiance, no significant change module temperature occurs when is increased above 0.082 exhibited steady efficiency approximately...
This paper assesses the technical and economic viability of a hybrid water-based mono-crystalline silicon (mc-Si) photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) module in comparison with conventional mc-Si photovoltaic (PV) installed Ghana. Analytical models are developed to analyze performance systems over 25-year period. The study shows that although PVT system is more expensive setup, it generally performs better than PV when both batteries. estimated average yearly total exergy load from sub-systems...
