The ALESS survey has followed up on a sample of 122 sub-millimeter sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South at 870 μm with Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), allowing us to pinpoint positions galaxies (SMGs) ∼0.3 arcsec and find their precise counterparts different wavelengths. This enabled first compilation multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions (SEDs) statistically reliable SMGs. In this paper, we present new calibration magphys SED modeling code that is optimized fit...
We exploit ALMA 870um (345GHz) observations of submillimetre sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South to investigate far-infrared properties high-redshift galaxies (SMGs). Using precisely located positions 99 SMGs, together with 24um and radio imaging this field, we deblend Herschel/SPIRE region extract their fluxes colours. The median photometric redshifts for LESS (ALESS) SMGs which are detected at least two SPIRE bands increases wavelength peak SEDs, z=2.3+/-0.2, 2.5+/-0.3...
We report the results of a pilot study with EVLA 12CO J=1-0 emission from four SMGs at z=2.2-2.5, each an existing detection CO J=3-2. Using EVLA's most compact configuration we detect strong, broad line all our targets. The median width ratio, sigma(1-0)/sigma(3-2) = 1.15 +/- 0.06, suggests that is more spatially extended than J=3-2 emission, situation confirmed by maps which reveal velocity structure in several cases and typical sizes ~16 kpc FWHM. Tb ratio r(3-2/1-0) 0.55 0.05, noting...
We present a catalogue of nearly 3,000 submillimetre sources detected at 850um over ~5 square degrees surveyed as part the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) SCUBA-2 Cosmology Legacy Survey (S2CLS). This is largest survey its kind 850um, probing meaningful cosmic volume peak star formation activity and increasing sample size galaxies selected by an order magnitude. describe wide component S2CLS, which covers key extragalactic fields: UKIDSS-UDS, COSMOS, Akari-NEP, Extended Groth Strip,...
We have used the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) Plateau Bure Interferometer and Expanded Very Large Array to obtain a high-resolution map of CO(6–5) CO(1–0) emission in lensed, star-forming galaxy SMM J2135−0102 at z = 2.32. The kinematics gas are well described by model rotationally supported disk with an inclination-corrected rotation speed, vrot 320 ± 25 km s−1, ratio rotational-to-dispersion support v/σ 3.5 0.2, dynamical mass (6.0 0.5) × 1010 M☉ within radius 2.5 kpc....
ABSTRACT We analyse the physical properties of a large, homogeneously selected sample ALMA-located sub-millimetre galaxies (SMGs). This survey, AS2UDS, identified 707 SMGs across ∼1 deg2 field, including ∼17 per cent, which are undetected at K ≳ 25.7 mag. interpret their ultraviolet-to-radio data using magphys and determine median redshift z = 2.61 ± 0.08 (1σ range 1.8–3.4) with just ∼6 cent > 4. Our survey provides massive dusty 1, dust stellar masses Md (6.8 0.3) × 108 M⊙ (thus, gas...
We present high-resolution (0.3'') ALMA 870um imaging of 52 sub-millimeter galaxies (SMGs) in the Ultra Deep Survey (UDS) field and investigate size morphology (sub-mm) emission on 2-10kpc scales. derive a median intrinsic angular FWHM=0.30$\pm$0.04'' for 23 SMGs sample detected at signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) >10. Using photometric redshifts we show that this corresponds to physical half-light diameter 2.4$\pm$0.2kpc. A stacking analysis an SNR <10 shows they have sizes consistent with...
We present the first photometric redshift distribution for a large sample of 870 μm submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) with robust identifications based on observations ALMA. In our analysis we consider 96 SMGs in Extended Chandra Deep Field South, 77 which have 4–19 band photometry. model SEDs these SMGs, deriving median zphot = 2.3 ± 0.1. The remaining 19 insufficient photometry to derive redshifts, but stacking Herschel confirms they are not spurious. Assuming that an absolute H-band magnitude...
We present high-resolution 870-um ALMA continuum maps of 30 bright sub-millimeter sources in the UKIDSS UDS field. These are selected from deep, 1-square degrees 850-um SCUBA--2 Cosmology Legacy Survey, and representative brightest field (median SCUBA2 flux S_850=8.7+/-0.4 mJy). detect 52 galaxies (SMGs) at >4-sigma significance our maps. In 61+/-17% single-dish source comprises a blend >=2 SMGs, where secondary SMGs Ultra--Luminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs) with L_IR>10^12 Lo. The SMG...
We present 1-7 GHz high-resolution radio imaging (VLA and e-MERLIN) spatially-resolved ionized gas kinematics for ten z<0.2 type~2 `obscured' quasars (log [L(AGN)/(erg/s)]>~45) with moderate luminosities [L(1.4GHz)/(W/Hz)]=23.3-24.4). These targets were selected to have known outflows based on broad [OIII] emission-line components (FWHM~800-1800 km/s). Although `radio-quiet' not `radio AGN' by many traditional criteria, we show that nine of the targets, star formation likely accounts <~10...

We present sensitive 850$\mu$m imaging of the COSMOS field using 640hr new and archival observations taken with SCUBA-2 at East Asian Observatory's James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. The survey (S2COSMOS) achieves a median noise level $\sigma_{850\mu{\mathrm{m}}}$=1.2mJy/beam over an area 1.6 sq. degree (MAIN; HST/ACS footprint), $\sigma_{850\mu{\mathrm{m}}}$=1.7mJy/beam additional 1 supplementary (SUPP) coverage. catalogue 1020 127 sources detected significance >4$\sigma$ >4.3$\sigma$ in MAIN...
We analyse a robust sample of 30 near-infrared-faint (K>25.3, 5 sigma) submillimetre galaxies selected across 0.96 deg^2 field, to investigate their properties and the cause lack detectable optical/near-infrared emission. Our analysis exploits precise identifications based on ALMA 870um continuum imaging, combined with very deep near-infrared imaging from UKIDSS-UDS survey. estimate that K>25.3 represent 15+/-2 per cent total population brighter than S870=3.6mJy, an expected surface density...
We present a study of luminous, z=0.15, type-2 quasar (log [L([OIII])/(erg/s)]=42.8) from the Quasar Feedback Survey. It is classified as 'radio-quiet' [L(1.4 GHz)/(W/Hz)]=23.8); however, radio imaging reveals ~1 kpc low-power jets [Pjet/(erg/s)]=44) inclined into plane galaxy disk. combine MUSE and ALMA observations to map stellar kinematics ionised molecular gas properties. The are seen drive galaxy-wide bi-conical turbulent outflows, reaching W80 = 1000-1300 km/s, in phase (traced via...
We present deep high resolution (0.03", 200pc) ALMA Band 7 observations covering the dust continuum and [CII] $\lambda157.7\mu$m emission in four $z\sim4.4-4.8$ sub-millimeter galaxies (SMGs) selected from ALESS AS2UDS surveys. The data show that rest-frame 160$\mu$m (observed 345 GHz) is consistent with smooth morphologies on kpc scales for three of sources. One source, UDS47.0, displays apparent substructure but this also a morphology, as indicated by simulations showing exponential disks...
We present multi-frequency (1–8 GHz) Very Large Array data, combined with VIsible MultiObject Spectrograph integral field unit data and Hubble Space Telescope imaging, of a z = 0.085 radio-quiet type 2 quasar (with L1.4 GHz ≈ 5 × 1023 W Hz−1 LAGN 1045 erg s−1). Due to the morphology its emission-line region, target (J1430+1339) has been referred as "Teacup" active galactic nucleus (AGN) in literature. identify "bubbles" radio emission that are extended ≈10–12 kpc both east west nucleus. ABSTRACT We present the first results from Quasar Feedback Survey, a sample of 42 z < 0.2, [O iii] luminous AGNs ( L[O III] > 1042.1 ergs s−1) with moderate radio luminosities (i.e. L1.4GHz 1023.4 W Hz−1; median = 5.9 × 1023 Hz−1). Using high spatial resolution (∼0.3–1 arcsec), 1.5–6 GHz images Very Large Array, we find that 67 per cent have spatially extended features on ∼1–60 kpc scales. The sizes and morphologies suggest these may be lower luminosity versions compact,...
