Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multi-factorial disease associated with aging. As the molecular mechanisms underpinning pathogenesis of this are unclear, there no disease-modifying drugs to combat OA. Pannexin 3 (PANX3) has been shown promote cartilage loss during posttraumatic In contrast, ablation Panx3 in male mice results spontaneous full-thickness lesions at 24 mo age. While protected from traumatic intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration, knockout (KO) show signs IVD altered...
We report a case of 66-year-old woman who presented with acute shoulder pain. Initial radiographs revealed sclerotic intraosseous lesion in the greater tuberosity associated cortical erosions and subacromial calcification. The diagnosis calcific tendinitis was confirmed additional magnetic resonance imaging nuclear medicine imaging. Within 3 months conservative measures, patient's symptoms improved but radiographic appearance had become more aggressive wider zone transition. After 1 year,...
Pannexin 3 (Panx3) is a glycoprotein that forms mechanosensitive channels expressed in chondrocytes and annulus fibrosus cells of the intervertebral disc (IVD). Evidence suggests Panx3 plays contrasting roles traumatic versus aging osteoarthritis (OA) degeneration (IDD). However, whether its deletion influences response joint tissue to forced use unknown. The purpose this study was determine if mice causes increased knee OA IDD after treadmill running. Male female wildtype (WT) knockout (KO)...
Abstract Background Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is a major contributor to back pain and disability. The cause of IVD multifactorial, with no disease‐modifying treatments. Mouse models are commonly used study degeneration; however, the effects anatomical location, strain, sex on progression age‐associated poorly understood. Methods A longitudinal was conducted characterize age‐, anatomical‐, sex‐specific differences in two strains mice, C57BL/6 CD‐1. Histopathological evaluation...
