In this paper, we discuss the compression of waveforms obtained from measurements power system quantities and analyze reasons why its importance is growing with advent smart grid systems. While generation transmission networks already use a considerable number automation measurement devices, large monitors meters are to be deployed in distribution network allow broad observability real-time monitoring. This situation creates new requirements concerning communication interface, computational...

We propose a fall detection monitoring system with the identification of acident location for elderly under care in indoor environments. The main objective is to reduce time until emergency personnel responds falls, especially when victim unconscious or delirious. Reducing response initiate appropriate patient may imply simultaneously reductions morbidity and mortality rates. proposed can be introduced hospitals, asylums nursing home environments rapidly low cost. detected using an embedded...

The number of waveforms monitored in power systems is increasing rapidly. This creates a demand for computational tools that aid the analysis phenomena and also allow efficient transmission storage information acquired. In this context, signal processing techniques play fundamental role. work tutorial reviewing principles applications atomic modeling electric disturbance signals. modeled using linear combination damped sinusoidal components which are closely related to typically observed...

In this letter, we address rate-distortion-optimum compression of signals from electric power system disturbances, using atomic decompositions. Usually, such optimization is obtained assuming a single dictionary and consists finding the best compromise between quantization coefficients in decomposition its number terms. Here, several parameterized dictionaries are used instead. This allows selection leading to rate-distortion (R-D) compromise. Distinct correspond different quantizers for...

This letter presents a novel approach to blind recovery of audio signals that have been distorted by memoryless, invertible, and smooth nonlinear function. We introduce cost function consisting weighted sum squared discrete cosine transform coefficients the recovered signal, whose weights are obtained from signal itself and, thus, can adapt different characteristics. In order prevent undesired trivial solutions, we impose an either quadratic or linear equality constraint, latter case with...

In signal processing, adaptive greedy decomposition algorithms have been used to obtain sparse approximations. A representative example is the Matching Pursuit (MP) algorithm, it iteratively approximates signals through a weighted sum of waveforms selected from redundant dictionary. These fundamental or atoms in dictionary are usually produced by scaling, translating and modulating prototype functions, such as Gaussian an exponential. Each function defines sub-dictionary. Dictionaries...

This paper aims at improving the Enhanced-PLL (E-PLL) to mitigate transient low-frequency oscillations, which is inherent single-phase circuits. These improvements resulted in a new PLL configuration, designated here as Double-Frequency Mitigation SOGI-EPLL, or simply DFM-SOGiEPLL. We integrate EPLL with Second-Order Generalized Integrator (SOGI), by modifying computation of internal error signals phase-and-frequency loop and amplitude loop. Thus, proposed DFM-SOGiEPLL able extinguish short...

The so-called sum-of-powers-of-two arithmetic has the advantage of using simple shift and thus avoiding multiplications operations. In this work, we provide a feasible RLS adaptive filter algorithm employing SOPOT representation. This reduces computational burden algorithm. Therefore, leading to reduction in power consumption from hardware implementation point view, which is an important feature developing smaller, lighter more power-efficient portable devices.
