We consider an economic geography model of a new genre: All firms and workers are mobile their agglomeration within city generates costs through competition on housing market. In the case two sectors, contrasted patterns arise. When one good is perfectly mobile, corresponding industry partially dispersed whereas other agglomerated, thus showing regional specialization. sector supplies nontradeable consumption good, this more agglomerated than other. The equilibrium involves urban hierarchy...

We study the effects of a decrease in inter-city transport costs on spatial distribution population multi-regional economy, when rise regional generates higher urban costs. Holding number cities constant, as are reduced gradually from very high level to low level, there is first phase which large grow while small shrink, second both and medium size third shrink grow. Furthermore, allowed vary values, it decreases then increases.

Abstract We study optimal and equilibrium sizes of cities in a city system model with pollution. Pollution is function population size. If pollution local or per-capita increases population, are too large under symmetry; asymmetric cities, the largest smallest small. When global declines size, may be small if marginal damage enough. calibrate to US find that undersized by 3–4%.

Abstract TABUCHI T. (1988) Interregional income differentials and migration: their interrelationships, Reg. Studies 22, 1–10. The major objective of this paper is to demonstrate that interregional differential exogenous net migration, but not conversely. Utilizing Japanese prefectural-based data for 1954–82, we conduct the following three kinds analyses confirm statement. Firstly, a simple comparison crests time-series plots was made see which occurred first. Secondly, Sims', 1972, test...
