Abstract Marine recreational fishing ( MRF ) is a high‐participation activity with large economic value and social benefits globally, it impacts on some fish stocks. Although reporting catches European Union legislative requirement, estimates are only available for countries. Here, data numbers of fishers, participation rates, days fished, expenditures, two widely targeted species were synthesized to provide placed in the global context. Uncertainty assessment was not possible due incomplete...

Unexpectedly high catch-and-release rates in European marine recreational fisheries: implications for science management. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 70: 1319–1329. Subtitles (closed captions) on television are typically placed at the bottom-centre of screen. However, placing subtitles in varying positions, according to underlying video content (`dynamic subtitles'), has potential make overall viewing experience less disjointed and more immersive. This paper describes testing such with hearing-impaired users, a new analysis previously collected eye-tracking data. The qualitative data demonstrates that dynamic can lead an improved User Experience,...
When creating digital artefacts, it is important to ensure that the product being made accessible as much of population possible. Many guidelines and supporting tools exist assist reaching this goal. However, little known about developers' understanding practice methods are used implement this. We present findings from an accessibility design workshop was carried out with a mixture 197 developers technology students. discuss perceptions accessibility, techniques when designing products, what...
An application of the annual egg production method to estimate spawning biomass cod (Gadus morhua
Currently there exists no agreed-upon user experience guidelines regarding subtitling (closed captions) in immersive 360-degree video experiences. It is not clear how subtitles might be acceptably displayed within this context, namely to support the balance between comprehension, freedom look around scene, and immersion. This work-in-progress describes four subtitle behaviours that we have designed implemented order perform user-testing. We describe our rationale for each behaviour discuss...
Abstract Maturity, sex ratio (proportion female by number) and length-at-age of cod in the Irish Sea were examined using data collected during groundfish surveys spring 1992–2002. Skewed ratios with a predominance males observed survey catches 2- 3-year-old taken on spawning grounds. In contrast, commercial midwater trawl same area had consistently higher ratios, suggesting that mature females have different vertical migration behaviour. Estimates proportion not affected method capture. GLM...
The stomach contents of poor-cod (Trisopterus minutus L.), pouting luscus and cod (Gadus morhua L.) from a Dublin-Bay prawn (Nephrops norvegicus fishery off the west coast Isle Man were investigated using modified gravimetric (wet weight) technique. Information is provided on percentage composition average daily food intake during successive three-month periods year, predator-prey size relationships. Simplified webs based principal prey are presented to summarize feeding relationships...
Millions of people rely on subtitles when watching video content. The current change in media viewing behaviour involving computers has resulted a large proportion turning to online sources as opposed regular television for news information. This work analyses the user experience subtitled videos presented part web page. A lab-based experiment was carried out with frequent subtitle users, focusing determining whether changes dimension and location could affect attached significant...
The Internet has continued to evolve, becoming increasingly media rich. It is now a major platform for video content, which available variety of users across range devices. Subtitles enhance this experience many users. However, subtitling techniques are still based on early television systems, impose limitations font type, size and line length. These no longer appropriate in the context modern web-based culture.
AbstractCannibalism by adult anchovy on their eggs was investigated within an area of intensive spawning over the Agulhas Bank comparing estimates daily per capita egg production and consumption derived from repeated sampling plankton CalVET net dips offish midwater trawl. Consumption a 15-hour feeding period estimated to have caused, average, 70 cent total mortality study area, although cannibalism shown be density-dependent.
Abstract The European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is a slow-growing late maturing fish. northern stock has been declining since 2010 and thought to be caused by combination of fishing weak year classes. Large inter-annual variation in settlement observed, so better understanding the mechanisms driving success will aid interpretation between years, help improve assessment models management strategies. In this study, an individual-based model (IBM) was developed investigate factors...
Following from similar initiatives worldwide, the U.K.'s Fisheries Science Partnership (FSP) was established in 2003 to provide fishing industry with opportunities propose and participate scientific studies collaboration fishery scientists. Key concepts were that most of available funding would support participation, industry, not scientists, come up ideas for projects, commercial vessels methods be used address specific concerns a scientifically controlled manner. Nearly 100 projects had...
The relationships between temperature and stage duration of the three zoea stages Irish Sea Nephrops norvegicus were investigated by culturing individual larvae at five different temperatures. are required for estimating daily larval production from survey data on abundance. survival cultured was relatively high. The concept of habitat selection based on ‘Ideal Free Distribution’ theory suggests that areas high suitability may attract larger quantities fishes than less suitable or unsuitable areas. Catch data were used from groundfish surveys to identify consistently densities whiting Merlangius merlangus , cod Gadus morhua and haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus in the Irish Sea plaice Pleuronectes platessa sole Solea solea lemon Microstomus kitt English Channel over a period 10 9 years respectively. In this paper, we outline our progress toward creating tools and workflows for object-based media (OBM) production, taking us from one-off demonstrators to scalable through the creation of production based on shared data models. We feature a recent example OBM created ground up discuss lessons learned production. then are making kit software workflows. Finally, look at building community practice OBM.
