A rockfall analysis at one of the most relevant cultural heritage sites northeastern Sicily (Italy) is presented herein with aim assessing hazard arising from unstable conditions rock cliff Taormina city, upon which Saracen Castle perched on its top. Several rockfalls affected this area in latest years, representing a serious threat for safety inhabitants and tourists. Therefore, qualitative Evolving Rockfall Hazard Assessment (ERHA) was applied zonation, supported by mass surveys...

One of the fundamental tasks for environmental impact assessment and natural risk management is accurate updated cataloging road infrastructures buildings. This particularly important in volcanic areas, order to predict range damage disruption, therefore losses reconstruction costs that could result from an eruption. GIS allows immediate access spatial data with ability overlay location-based information easy interpretation, providing a critical tool assessing mitigating phenomena. In this...

Forest fires are one of the most dangerous events, causing serious land and environmental degradation. Indeed, besides loss a huge quantity plant species, effects can go far beyond: desertification, increased risk landslides, soil erosion, death animals, etc. For these reasons, mathematical models able to predict fire spreading needed in order organize optimize extinguishing interventions during emergencies. This work presents new system simulate movement front based on free open source...

In particular, by adopting a post-dictive approach, GIS and FOSS technology was used to analyse different indices derived from World-View-2 data. The selected examples (two circular buildings wall-structure) illustrate successes challenges our method. results indicate that NIR-1 RED-EDGE are undoubtedly most useful, while NDVI SRI best performing indices.
