The Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary (CMB) as defined by the GSSP at Tercis-de-Landes, France, is currently in investigation newly installed Maastrichtian Working Group. Although base of was set a mean marker bioevents, it actually near guide event first occurrence (FO) ammonite Pachydiscus neubergicus, ca. 35 ka younger than level. main calcareous nannofossil last (LO) Uniplanarius trifidus (Quadrum trifidum), estimated 750 younger. Paleogeographically, Tercis situated Tethys-Atlantic...
Anthropogenic strata form the layered urban archive in underground of large cities. In a transdisciplinary project involving geosciences, isotope physics and archaeology, we looked for artificial isotopes anthropogenic trace metals. The tested archaeological site Karlsplatz is situated city Vienna (Austria). Archaeology historical data sets provide age constraints around 1922, post-1945 at 1959. A layer on top WW2 rubble that covers foundations 1922 building post-dates 1945, pre-dates...
Abstract Two sections of the klippen zones in Wienerwald area have been investigated for their stratigraphy: (1) The Gern section Main Klippen Zone, a part Gresten and (2) St. Veit Zone Lainz Tunnel neighboring outcrops western Vienna. New biostratigraphic data are based on radiolaria from siliceous intervals few findings calcareous nannofossils marlstones. In radiolarian assemblages limestones locality indicate middle Oxfordian to early Kimmeridgian age Scheibbsbach Formation. Radiolarian...
This study investigates the Paleogene deep-water depositional system of Gosau Group at Gams, Styria (Austria). The examined sections Danian to Ypresian age (NP1–NP12) comprise sediments Nierental and Zwieselalm Formations. Four clastic facies assemblages were encountered: (1) pelagic marls with thin turbidites, (2) carbonate-rich (3) carbonate-poor (4) marl-bearing turbidites; slump beds mass flow deposits are common features in all assemblages. Based on heavy mineral, section, microprobe,...

Urban anthropogenic strata forms the layered archaeosphere in underground of large cities. In a transdisciplinary project involving geosciences, isotope physics and urban archaeology, funded by Vienna Science Technology Fund (WWTF), we looked for artificial isotopes layers around proposed starting date Anthropocene middle 20th century. The tested archaeological site is situated heart Vienna, park area at Karlsplatz, adjacent to renovated Museum. Excellent detailed 3D...

The Anthropocene Working Group (AWG) of the Subcommission on Quaternary Stratigraphy, a part International Commission is evaluating stratigraphic successions, as potential stratotypes, in order to facilitate formal submission GSSP (Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Points) proposal, from which specific year for onset "geological" will be established. The aim seek ratification geological epoch starting mid-twentieth century. Stratigraphic records,...
The Upper Cretaceous succession (Coniacian to lowermost Maastrichtian, with focus on the Campanian) at Petrich, Central Srednogorie Zone in Bulgaria, is described and calibrated stratigraphically based nannofossils, dinoflagellate cysts inoceramids. following standard nannofossil zones subzones are identified: UC10–UC11ab (middle upper Coniacian), UC11c–UC12–UC13 (uppermost Coniacian Santonian), UC14a (lowermost Campanian), UC14b TP–UC15c TP (lower Campanian ‘middle’ UC15d TP– UC15e (upper...

The Kyunetsa section, 2.5 km west of Kosharevo, exposes mainly pelagic Upper Cretaceous marly limestones and marls the Srednogorie Zone, part intermediate Balkanides in Bulgaria. Melove Formation Coniacian to early Campanian age involves a prominent Santonian-Campanian boundary interval grey reddish sediments, including CORBs (Cretaceous Oceanic Red Beds). base can be discerned bed 7c by first rare (single) occurrence nannofossil Broinsonia (Aspidolithus) parca parca. A positive carbon...
