To analyse the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) and identify factors predicting functional outcome.Multicentre retrospective cohort study patients AIS who presented to 30 centres in USA Canada between 14 March August 2020. The primary endpoint was poor outcome, defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) 5 or 6 at discharge. Secondary endpoints include favourable outcome (mRS ≤2) mortality discharge, ordinal mRS (shift analysis), symptomatic intracranial...
The mechanisms and outcomes in coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-associated stroke are unique from those of non-COVID-19 stroke. To describe the efficacy acute revascularization large vessel occlusion (LVO) setting COVID-19 an international cohort. We conducted multicenter retrospective study consecutively admitted patients with concomitant LVO across 50 comprehensive centers. Our control group constituted historical controls presenting receiving a mechanical thrombectomy between January 2018...
Abstract Although reductions in the expression of calcium‐buffering proteins calbindin D‐28K (CB) and parvalbumin (PV) have been observed aging brain, it is unknown whether these changes contribute to age‐related hippocampal dysfunction. To address this issue, we measured basal metabolism structure across lifespan C57BL/6J, D‐28k knockout (CBKO) (PVKO) mice. Basal was estimated using steady state relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV), which a variant fMRI that provides highest spatial...
Background Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the context of COVID‐19 has received considerable attention for its propensity to affect patients all ages. We aimed evaluate effect age on functional outcome and mortality following an acute event. Methods Results A prospectively maintained database from comprehensive centers Canada United States was analyzed with AIS March 14 September 30, 2020 who tested positive SARS‐CoV‐2. The primary Modified Rankin Scale score at discharge, secondary...
Previous studies suggest that mechanisms and outcomes in patients with COVID-19-associated stroke differ from those non-COVID-19-associated strokes, but there is limited comparative evidence focusing on these populations. The aim of this study, therefore, was to determine if a significant association exists between COVID-19 status revascularization functional following thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion (LVO), after adjustment potential confounding factors.A cross-sectional,...

SUMMARY:
Timely administration of thrombolytic therapy is critical to maximizing the likelihood favorable outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Although emergency medical service activation overall improves timeliness stroke treatment, time from dispatch hospital arrival unavoidably decreases administration. Our mobile unit, a new-generation ambulance on-board CT scanning capability, reduces key imaging metrics and facilitates in-the-field delivery IV therapy.

Background: The University of Colorado Mobile Stroke Unit (UC MSU) provides ambulance-mounted CT scanning and tele-stroke neurologic assessment in the Denver, CO, metropolitan area. As one first U.S. medical centers to utilize a mobile stroke protocol we sought compare operational characteristics MSU during its year with standard management (SM) pre-hospital alerts at Comprehensive Center. Methods: study compared patient characteristics, ambulance response, evaluation, treatment between MSU,...
Background: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that most commonly afflicts children and young adults may be rarely seen in renal transplant patients. Most cases resolve with medical management; however, some instances, initial episode evolve into fulminant illness malignant cerebral edema elevated intracranial pressure can result herniation syndrome possible fatal consequences.Immediate relief priority therapies alone not...
We evaluated two patients with calcific brain embolism. Following trans-septal cardiac catheterization, an 84-year-old woman coronary artery disease and prior mitral valve annuloplasty bioprosthetic aortic replacement, had aphasia right hemiparesis. Computed tomography (CT) showed a embolus of the left middle cerebral (MCA) (Fig 1) […]. Stroke due to embolism after procedures

OBJECTIVE: To describe the unusual association of stroke due to an extracranial right internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection following roller-coaster rides in a 4-year old boy. BACKGROUND: Strokes children should prompt thorough investigations. associated with are unusual. DESIGN/METHODS: A previously healthy 4-year-old boy frequented many roller coasters his parents while on vacation at out state amusement park . On flight home day, noticed left facial droop. Upon landing, he was unable...
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of ischemic stroke in patient with multiple mural aortic thrombi essential thrombocythemia and primary myelofibrosis. BACKGROUND: Essential is chronic myelodysplastic syndrome that represents an uncommon cause stroke, TIA headache. DESIGN/METHODS: Case report RESULTS: 64-year-old man medical history hypertension, dyslipidemia thoracic aneurysm presented chest pain, left hand numbness headache. He was admitted for possible acute coronary then developed sudden...
OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical and radiological features of a case multiphasic acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) in pediatric patient on chronic immunosupresion after renal transplantation. BACKGROUND: ADEM is rare demyelinating disorder with potential devastating neurological consequences, reported few post-transplant patients. DESIGN/METHODS: Case report RESULTS: 7-year-old boy history end-stage disease transplantation immunosuppression cyclosporine, tacrolimus...
Introduction: Mobile stroke treatment unit (MSTU) has been shown to be able provide pre-hospital thrombolysis in acute ischemic (AIS). MSTU can also used for early diagnosis and of other neurological diseases. Hypothesis: encounters disorders than AIS that needs emergent treatment. Methods: We obtained data from the prospectively collected dataset on 231 consecutive encounters. Based initial clinical evaluation neuroimaging MSTU, physician made (definite, probable, possible AIS, transient...
Introduction: The mobile stroke unit (MSTU) is an on-site pre-hospital treatment team that incorporates laboratory and CT scanner reduces times to for ischemic thrombolysis. impact of MSTU on outcomes intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remains unknown. We report our initial experience with ICH encountered MSTU. Hypothesis: can be quickly identified using Hypertension coagulopathy are common in evaluated Methods: cases from the prospectively collected database encounters. Demographics, clinical...
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of Varicella-Zoster (VZV) encephalitis presenting with intraparenchymal hemorrhage and multifocal leukoencephalopathy. BACKGROUND: VZV infections the Central Nervous System (CNS) occur after reactivation dormant virions established in sensory ganglia leading to invasion retina, meninges or brain parenchyma. DESIGN/METHODS: Case report RESULTS: 48-year-old man medical history HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, presented sudden onset speech difficulties. He had not been...
