Abstract Clays obtained from nature have a lot of impurities. Therefore, for best using these materials, it is necessary its selection and purification. Thus, the aim this work to separate purify smectite fractions water as solvent at low flux mixed with bentonite clay extracted mine in Vitória da Conquista - Bahia / Brazil. For separation method expandable clays based on Stokes' Law was applied process called elutriation, order ensure expand possible industrial applications material. The...

Abstract Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) nanocomposites based on single and hybrid organic‐modified montmorillonites were previously studied in terms of their morphological, thermal fire performance. As surfactants the organoclays influenced compatibility between nanofillers PLA with different degrees clay platelets dispersion, present work investigated effect these features mechanical properties nanocomposites. specimens analyzed by dynamic‐mechanical‐thermal analysis, which pointed out changes...

Abstract Native cassava starch was modified by dry heating treatment, and sodic montmorillonite using an alkylpolyglucoside biosurfactant to produce a novel montmorillonite‐filled bionanocomposites with improved performance. The were produced in two extrusion steps co‐rotating twin‐screw extruder. structural properties of the studied X‐ray diffraction. reinforcement effect material performance evaluated hydrophobicity, solubility, opacity, barrier, thermal mechanical properties. In general,...

This paper describes the effects of adding organic montmorillonite clays (MMT) with different polarities (one polar and one non-polar) in recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) polypropylene (PP) blends. Styrene-Ethylene/Butylene-Styrene-maleic anhydride-graft (SEBS-g-MA) was used as a compatibilizer. MMT polarity chosen based on expected specific interaction each clay PET PP. Samples were evaluated by wide angle X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, differential...
