Weight–length relationships are presented for 63 fish species sampled with a commercial trawl vessel at depths ranging from 28 to 370 m between February 2005 and April 2006 in Saros Bay, Turkey. Bay was closed fishery 2000, thus, most of the demersal were relatively undisturbed.

ABSTRACT Trammel nets are used with extended soaking times to increase the catching efficiency for demersal fish in commercial fishing. Long time causes deterioration or damage species caught first days. Effects of were investigated 36‐mm, 42‐mm, and 46‐mm mesh sizes soaked over 1, 3, 5, 7 days on target, non‐target, other species. Only 26.3% (293 individual fish) 1113 not damaged target Total weight non‐damaged individuals was 247.6 kg, which 150.6 kg (60.8%) Critically endangered...

To investigate the effect of twine thickness on selectivity multifilament gillnet targeting bogue,Boops boops L., four different stations were sampled between March and November 2008 in northern Aegean Sea. Gillnets with 22, 23, 25 mm nominal mesh size (bar length) each having two thicknesses (approximately 0.45 0.54 ∅) applied for this purpose. The deviances from SELECT method revealed that lognormal models provided best fits both thicknesses. Results two-way ANOVA analyses mean total...

In this study, the growth parameters of four-spotted megrim, (Lepidorhombus boscii Risso, 1810), were studied in Saros Bay, which had been closed to bottom trawl fishery since 2000. The sex ratio females males was 1:0.42. Length-weight relationships W=0.0032L3.31 and W=0.0069L3.04 for males, respectively. Growth populations L∞=49.8 cm, k=0.09 year-1, t0=-2.15 year females; L∞=39.1 k=0.11 t0=-2.59 males. performance index (Φ’) found be 2.35 2.23

Background. Understanding the reproduction of spotted flounder, Citharus linguatula (Linnaeus, 1758), has been considered a major step toward understanding its population dynamics, especially, in northern Aegean Sea. So, presently reported study aimed to reproductive biology C. and provided first data fecundity. Materials methods. This was carried out between September 2006 2008 Saros Bay (Northern Sea, Turkey), which had closed trawl fishing since 2000. The gonadosomatic index, length at...

To determine the selectivity of gill nets with 22, 23, 25 and 28 mm nominal mesh size (bar length) for bluefish (Pomatamus saltatrix, L. 1766), study was conducted at three different stations between 20 30 m water depths Canakkale Strait, Turkey, February 2007 April 2012. Gill net each having same twine thickness (210 denier / 3) 100 depth vertically were rigged this purpose. The fish samples obtained by drive-in fishery method during winter season. SELECT used in determining parameters. By...

To understand the ecosystem health of Sea Marmara following dense mucilage event in 2021, growth indicators (length-weight relationships and condition factors) coastal fish species were investigated. For this purpose, individuals sampled during experimental fishing trials with beach seine nets between November 2021 March 2022 from Marmara, Türkiye. A total 32 belonging to 19 families obtained. 12 juvenile 20 small-sized adult identified, factors length-weight (LWRs) calculated. The LWR...
