The current study was initiated when our specific-pathogen-free laboratory toms developed unexpectedly high levels of cross-reactive antibodies to human SARS-CoV-2 (SCoV2) receptor binding domain (RBD) upon mating with feline coronavirus (FCoV)-positive queens. Multi-sequence alignment analyses SCoV2 Wuhan RBD and four strains each from FCoV serotypes 1 2 (FCoV1 FCoV2) demonstrated an amino acid sequence identity 11.5% a similarity 31.8% FCoV1 (12.2% 36.5% for FCoV2 RBD). sera queens...

For the development of an effective HIV-1 vaccine, evolutionarily conserved epitopes between feline and human immunodeficiency viruses (FIV HIV-1) were determined by analyzing overlapping peptides from retroviral genomes that induced both anti-FIV/HIV T cell-immunity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells FIV-vaccinated cats HIV-infected humans. The T-cell on p24 reverse transcriptase selected based their robust FIV/HIV-specific CD8⁺ cytotoxic lymphocyte (CTL), CD4⁺ CTL, polyfunctional...

To evaluate the serum concentrations of myostatin and growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) in Alaskan Husky sled dogs participating a 350-mile (560-km) race an older population, to examine correlations between changes body condition scores (BCSs).Dogs were recruited from 3 teams Huskies Alaskan-Yukon Quest sled-dog retirees research colony.Serum samples BCSs collected prior racing, midway, postrace; cohort (13 14 years). Myostatin GDF-15 assessed using commercially available ELISA...

The risk of arteriosclerosis may be reduced by increasing the levels α-linolenic acid (ALA), a omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid.Perilla oil contains abundant ALA.This randomized crossover clinical study perilla investigated its safety and effects on ALA lipid profile in 10 subjects.Half subjects took 1 tablespoon (ALA content = approximately 9.4 g) remaining half olive 0.09 daily for week. After 28-day washout period, each group switched other week.Variables were measured before after week...
