A comparative elemental analysis of espresso coffee from Poland and Portugal was carried out. Using an ICP-MS analytical procedure, samples collected public cafes in (n = 60 n 44, respectively) were studied for their macromineral trace element content. To evaluate the contribution water to final composition beverage, paired (i.e., same locations) drinking also analysed. The mineral profile quite similar: Mg > P Ca Rb Mn B Zn Cu Sr Ba Ni Pb Cs Mo Sn Cd Sb Tl Portugal. For most elements,...

Background/Objectives: Higher lithium (Li) levels in drinking water have been linked to lower suicide rates the general population several ecological studies, though this relationship is not always consistent. The main limitation of such studies assumption that Li content directly correlated with total intake, which may be case for reasons. Methods: In context, we conducted a biomonitoring study compare urinary levels-assumed as reliable indicator intake-among individuals from three regions...

Abstract The Leça River and two beaches close to the north south margins of estuary, nowadays an important seaport harbor, show signs contamination. However, chemical nature that contamination is uncertain. Therefore, this study checked for presence 11 endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) animal (17β-estradiol estrone), pharmaceutical (17α-ethynylestradiol), industrial (alkylphenols, alkylphenol ethoxylates, bisphenol A) origins in water samples collected from six points at river gradient...

This paper describes the development and application of a flow injection analysis system manifold comprising gas diffusion unit potentiometric detector to determination free total SO2 in white red wines. A homogeneous crystalline iodide double-membrane tubular electrode was used as detector. based on Ripper method carried out by dosing formed oxidation with iodine, followed separation compound through Teflon membrane. The results obtained from analyses 30 wine samples showed good agreement...

Water quality of Douro and Ave lower basin was evaluated regarding physicochemical parameters (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen temperature), nutrient compounds (nitrates, nitrites, ammonium orthophosphates), chlorophyll a occurrence trace elements (Li, Be, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Se, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sb, Ba, Tl, Pb, Th U). To study spatiotemporal variations possible anthropogenic sources, estuarine samples were collected at nine sampling sites in five distributed along the estuaries...

Natural organic compounds such as phytoestrogens and phytosterols found in various plants, well mycotoxins produced by fungi, can be aquatic environments. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence three different classes natural estrogenic compounds, i.e., phytoestrogens, mycotoxins, estuarine water samples from Ave River estuary. For that, were collected at five sampling points distributed along estuary low tide, during 1 year, processed solid-phase extraction (SPE) analyzed...

Because of the scientific evidence showing that arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and nickel (Ni) are human genotoxic carcinogens, European Union (EU) recently set target values for metal concentration in ambient air (As: 6 ng/m3, Cd: 5 Ni: 20 ng/m3). The aim our study was to determine levels these trace elements Porto Metropolitan Area (PMA) order assess whether compliance occurring with new EU quality standards. Fine (PM2.5) inhalable (PM10) particles were collected from October 2011 July 2012...

Amphetamine (AMP) is a chiral psychoactive substance that exhibits enantioselectivity in its pharmacological properties. It has been detected wastewaters and surface waters can occur as enantiomeric mixtures, but little known about environmental risk potential enantioselective toxicity to aquatic organisms. Our study aimed target AMP the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna. Daphnids were subchronically exposed racemate (rac-AMP: 0.1, 1.0, 10 µg/L) pure enantiomers, (R)-AMP (S)-AMP (0.1,...
