DNA barcoding based on a fragment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in mitochondrial genome is widely applied species identification and biodiversity studies. The aim this study was to establish comprehensive reference database fishes Taiwan Strait evaluate applicability using COI for fish at level. A total 284 barcode sequences were obtained from 85 genera, 38 families 12 orders fishes. mean length 655 base pairs. average Kimura two parameter (K2P) distances within species,...

The capitellid genus Leiocapitella is characterized by the possession of anterior 12-16 chaetigers exclusively with capillaries and following 1-2 transitional notopodial neuropodial hooded hooks. A new species was obtained from continental shelf East China Sea, identified herein as fujianensis. differs other four described number location chaetigers, dentition abdominal hooks, methyl green stain on thorax. key to all provided in this paper.

Polychaetes of the family Capitellidae are poorly studied in Chinese waters. Amongst known capitellid genera China, Leiochrides Augener, 1914 is an unusual genus encountered marine surveys. In this study, a specimen was obtained during survey conducted Beibu Gulf, northern South China Sea and described herein as new species guangxiensis sp. nov. The differs from its congeners by having uniramous chaetiger 1, chaetigers 11-12 with notopodial capillaries neuropodial hooks, abdominal hooks seven...

To characterize the spatial distributions of methane‐sulfonic acid (MSA) as represented by measured aerosol methane sulfonate (MS) and its relationships with non‐sea‐salt (nss) sulfate (SO 4 2− ) in marine atmospheric boundary layer over high‐latitude regions, bulk samples were collected during eight cruises Chinese National Antarctic Arctic Research Expeditions from 1998 to 2008. The concentrations MSA (an indicator biogenic sulfur production), sulfate, sodium chloride analyzed using ion...

The use of functional trait analysis has been advocated to uncover the global mechanisms behind biodiversity responses environmental variation, but application this approach Arctic macrobenthic community is underdeveloped relative that used for other organism groups. Based on several summer surveys (July September 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016) in Bering Sea, we biological (BTA) quantify composition diversity traits along an gradient ranging from shallowest portion continental shelf break deep...

Abstract This study explored the characteristics of marine heatwaves (MHWs) and related dynamics in Bay Bengal (BOB) associated with El Niño events during 1982–2020. showed that can induce more MHW days, which displays remarkable seasonality. The strong influences were found southern BOB at its peak phase winter following spring, characterized by an increase days 106% 83% spring. In proceeding summer, weakened shifted to central bay. spring are primarily caused enhanced solar radiation...

Abstract Fecal sterols are traditionally ascribed as important biomarkers for animal excrement, and have been widely used to identify the source of organic matter reconstruct paleoecological changes in Antarctic terrestrial, aquatic, marine ecosystems. However, situ microbial hydrogenation cholesterol coprostanol could significance a proxy infer paleoenvironmental studies Antarctica, particularly anoxic sediment. Here, we report that abundant coprostanol, which was deemed biomarker human...

Molecular phylogenetics provides objective references for zoological systematics which sometimes are inconsistent with morphological data. This applies particularly some primitive phyla such as Cnidaria. The marine hydrozoan Symplectoscyphus turgidus (Sertularellidae) is a recent questionable case reported to occupy an unexpected phylogenetic position and suggested belong new genus. However, its position, based on single Californian specimen, seemed doubtful. Here we contributed 16S, 18S 28S...

Abstract To investigate the concentrations, sources, and temporal variations of atmospheric black carbon (BC) in summer Arctic, routine ground-level observations BC by optical absorption were made from 2005 to 2008 at Chinese Arctic “Yellow River” Station (78°55′N, 11°56′E) Ny-Ålesund on island Spitsbergen Svalbard Archipelago. Biological systematics provides taxonomic information and expertise for biogeography biological invasion research management. However, the systematic classification of most taxa, including some alien invasive species, relies only on morphology. This applies example to Sertularella tongensis Stechow, 1919 E. (1919).
