A catalase‐deficient mutant (RPr 79/4) and the wild‐type (cv. Maris Mink) barley ( Hordeum vulgare L.) counterpart, were grown for 3 weeks in high CO 2 (0.7%) then transferred to air ozone (120 nl 1 −1 ) light shade a period of 4 days. Leaves roots analysed catalase (CAT, EC 1.11.1.6), superoxide dismutase (SOD, 1.15.1.1) glutathione reductase (GR, 1.6.4.2) activities. CAT activity leaves RPr 79/4 was around 5‐10% that determined Mink, but roots, both genotypes contained approximately same...
We report herein thermally responsive elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) in a linear AB diblock architecture with an N-terminal peptide ligand that self-assemble into spherical micelles when heated slightly above body temperature. A series of 10 ELP block copolymers (ELP(BC)'s ) different molecular weights and hydrophilic-to-hydrophobic ratios were genetically synthesized by recursive directional ligation. The self-assembly these polymers from unimers was investigated light scattering,...
The structure of cyanoginosin-LA (previously referred to by us as toxin BE-4) is cyclo(-D-Ala-L-Leu-erythro-β-methyl-D-isoAsp-L-Ala-Adda-D-Glu-N-methyldehydroAla)(17a), where Adda refers the novel β-amino acid residue 3-amino-9-methoxy-2,6,8-trimethyl-10-phenyldeca-4,6-dienoic (11). connectivity deduced from 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. data, but stereochemistry at carbons 2,3,8, 9 remains unknown. sequence derived mass spectra cyclic linear derivatives toxin. The structures of the hepatotoxins general name cyanoginosins-XY are proposed to be cyclo-D-Ala-L-X-erythro-β-methyl-D-isoAsp-L-Y-Adda-D-isoGlu-N-methyldehydroAla (1) where X and Y represent variable amino acids Adda is 3-amino-9-methoxy-2,6,8-trimethyl-10-phenyldeca-4,6-dienoic acid (2). structural studies on four variant toxins utilised n.m.r. mass spectral methods analogous those recently used determine structure cyanoginosin-LA. The palmar fascial tissues of more than 400 patients with Dupuytren's disease were studied biochemically and compared normal tissue obtained from 100 who undergoing hand surgery for other reasons. No alterations the molecular structure or state macromolecular aggregation collagen in detected by wide low-angle x-ray diffraction studies transmission electron microscopy. Major biochemical changes fascia affected included increased hexosamine contents presence galactosamine most severely...
We have isolated three classes of monoclonal antibodies against Drosophila cell-surface antigens that are expressed with positional specificity in imaginal discs. Comparison immunofluorescence patterns the wing-disc fate map reveals expression is not directly related to specific type cuticular structure a cell will make upon differentiation but depends on position undifferentiated disc epithelium. On mature wing discs, each class position-specific (PS) antibody binds nonuniformly respect...
Angle-resolved photoemission, using polarized synchrotron radiation, from the system Ni(001) +CO shows two chemisorption peaks which exhibit strong variations in amplitude depending on polar angle of emission and optical polarization. The behavior is agreement with a recent calculation angular photoemission oriented CO molecules, supporting model undissociated, "end-on" bonding molecular axis perpendicular to surface, thus demonstrates that angle-resolved may give adsorbate goemetries.
ABSTRACT Filaments of Anabaena have a spaced pattern differentiated cells called heterocysts, which is maintained as filament grows by the regular determination new heterocysts. By following growth every cell in filament, we identified proheterocysts (prospective heterocysts) at their earliest appearance, and described sequence events formation pattern. The obeys 2 rules: (1) that there are inhibitory zones around pre-existing (2) only smaller daughter division can become heterocyst (all...
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a technique that typically builds parts layer by layer, for example, in the case of selective laser melted (SLM) material fusing layers metal powder. This allows construction complex geometry parts, which, some cases cannot be made traditional routes. Complex can difficult to inspect conformity and defects which are limiting widespread adoption especially high performance arenas. Spatially resolved acoustic spectroscopy (SRAS) characterisation based on robustly...
Recent years have heralded the introduction of metasurfaces that advantageously combine vision sub-wavelength wave manipulation, with design, fabrication and size advantages associated surface excitation. An important topic within is tailored rainbow trapping selective spatial frequency separation electromagnetic acoustic waves using graded metasurfaces. This dependent segregation has implications for energy concentrators harvesting, sensing filtering techniques. Different demonstrations...
Results are presented of experiments carried out in JET with the Mark II divertor to study ELMy H modes at high density. In these effective ion mass plasma (pure hydrogen, deuterium and tritium), input power, current edge triangularity were varied. The variation density was achieved by gas fuelling. focus is on two main issues: global energy confinement scaling mode pedestal. It found that dependence ITER97-P(y) not confirmed experiment when limit approached. For regime a independent...
The fiber type composition of a skeletal muscle is an important determinant its ability to take up glucose. Although numerous factors may account for this phenomenon, we have hypothesized that differences in glucose transporter number, isoform content, and/or intrinsic activity play role. Skeletal plasma membranes were prepared from red and white gastrocnemius male Sprague-Dawley rats either exercised on treadmill (1 h, 20 m/min, 10% grade), injected with U insulin, or remained sedentary. In...
V2O5 thin films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) over a wide substrate temperature range, 30−500 °C, and characterized studying their microstructure optical properties. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV−vis−NIR spectral measurements made on the PLD to understand effect of chemical composition, elemental distribution, surface morphology, The strongly influences structure properties...

ABSTRACT We present further evidence for an interactive mechanism in the formation of spaced pattern heterocysts Anabaena. The comes from experiments which are extension those described earlier, filaments alga broken near to a proheterocyst. argue that proheterocyst depends upon neighbouring vegetative cells removal inhibitory substance: when is deprived these supporting it will be forced regress. showed earlier such regressions do occur early proheterocysts filament on one side only. now...
Since 1968, the Meat and Livestock Commission has been carrying out a considerable amount of tissue separation work on samples cattle sheep arising from its livestock improvement schemes. The purpose this to provide data variation in carcass composition these animals relate production characteristics. From point view meat market, it is important when fast growing sires are selected for use, particularly by AI, that they should be known capable producing offspring which, under normal feeding...

We found that the grain size of V2O5 thin films produced by pulsed laser ablation strongly influences their optical characteristics. The decrease in band gap associated with a change spectral transmittance deposited are mainly due to structure evolution from amorphous crystalline state and distribution characteristics grains as function increasing growth temperature.
