Objectives To define characteristics that influence patient perceptions of thyroidectomy scar cosmesis. Study Design Prospective cohort study. Setting Tertiary endocrine surgery practice in an academic medical center. Subjects and Methods Institutional review board–approved trial which 136 subjects were recruited from a population patients being seen for either thyroid or sinus evaluated standardized photographs, superimposed with computer‐generated scars varying lengths (2, 4, 6 cm) widths...
Abstract Background Clinical airway assessment has limited predictive ability to anticipate difficult airway. Three-dimensional (3D) technologies have emerged in medicine as valuable tools different settings including innovation and surgical planning. facial scanning could add value clinical measurements two-dimensional models assess the However, commonly used high-fidelity scans are expensive. This study aims compare accuracy of made by Scandy Pro app a cost-effective alternative Artec...
Simultaneous orthogonal plane imaging with tilt enables the display of two 2D, real-time images and evaluation structures that cannot be seen by conventional single-plane transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) imaging. After a step-wise examination protocol, we used simultaneous to obtain short-axis view pulmonic valve (PV) assessed flow in both simultaneously using color Doppler 100 consecutive patients undergoing intraoperative TEE. Our goals were assess ability this technique visualize...
Interprofessional Education (IPE) provides a framework for collaborative education between health care specialties to improve patient care. In 2010, the Collaborative Expert Panel established competencies of communication, ethics, roles and responsibilities, teams teamwork. Studies have assessed knowledge attitudes about IPE in several allied educational programs including respiratory therapy (RT).We compared RT faculty athletic training (AT), nutrition (NT), occupational (OT), physical...
Summary Twenty-four percent of bed-days were occupied by patients whose discharge from hospital was delayed for social or geriatric reasons in a bed-usage survey carried out on surgical during three-month period 1973. By early assessment with the regular help medical worker it possible to reduce such delays 16% similar study same 1974. The at-risk elderly admitted as an emergency and present policy contributed particularly overall care this group.
A robust, accurate, and standardized approach to measurement of the aorta is critical improve predictive accuracy these aortic measurements, investigate other imaging biomarkers. Developing a comprehensive generic schema for characterization enable investigators standardize data that are collected across all research. systematic review literature was conducted identify assess schemata description. The were reported discussed guide synthesis schema. We propose International College Angiology...
PURPOSE: To develop a model that can be used by Ob-Gyn residents when performing simulation for laparoscopic myomectomy. BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) is challenging procedure encountered during residency training. Limited commercial products exist but are cost-prohibitive consistent use. METHODS: Uterine and fibroid molds were generated using Pixelogic® Z-brush design software printed from 3D printer polylactic acid filament. Smooth-On® Dragon Skin silicone of varying densities...
Having a surgical simulation model allows residents to learn the steps and tissue dynamics involved with procedure in risk-free environment. The previous circumcision practice used within Augusta University Obstetrics Department did not realistically simulate procedure. 3D modeling printing were utilized create molds, which then injected silicone. resulting silicone was found have highly realistic dynamics. Future obstetrics department will use completed circumcisions.
