We studied the changes in geochemical variables middle section of Río de la Plata estuary during 2009–2010 El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event. Protein, organic matter, chlorophyll-a and phaeopigment content surface sediments were significantly correlated with increased continental freshwater input associated high total monthly rainfall. During warm-phase ENSO event, river flow was 5-fold larger than average historical levels, which led to a steady decrease salinity values highest...

We describe the specific richness and community structure of benthic molluscs on a shallow-water sandy bank (Banco Inglés) in Río de la Plata estuary. From total 25 macroinvertebrate taxa collected, that included one ophiuroid, bryozoan, fourcrustaceans four polychaete species, were dominant taxon, with 15 species recorded. These Polyplacophora, eight Bivalvia six Gastropoda (one exotic), representing 11families 11 genera. In terms mean relative abundance, molluscan assemblage was dominated...

In this study, published and unpublished data on bulk organic matter from surficial sediments along the Southwestern Atlantic Margin (SAM) were gathered to identify sources understand carbon transport over large complex area under regime of strongly coupled climatic-hydrological-oceanographic interactions. To achieve goal, total (TOC), nitrogen (TN), stable (δ13C), (δ15N) isotopes, as well calcium carbonate 256 sedimentary samples SAM analysed. Cluster analysis defined three geochemically...

Abstract The spatial and seasonal distribution of the viable heterotrophic population three physiological groups, i.e. ammonifyers, nitrate reducers sulphate reducers, were studied in two reservoirs province Vizcaya (Spain). Using indicative parameters, both classified as warm monomictics, one hypereutrophic other mesotrophic. A direct relation between size bacterial populations trophic levels was observed. Likewise, distributions water column are basically different. In lake there is a...

: Rocha Lagoon is part of the chain coastal lagoons extended along Uruguayan Atlantic coast, which continues through southern Brazil. It presents a complex ecological dynamic due to marine-brackish gradient. The benthic macrofauna an important component these estuarine environments affected by its dynamics. In present work, we analysed how sand-tongues (sand accumulation perpendicular sandbar) affects macrobenthic fauna. We stablished relationship between macrobenthos and environmental...
