The taxonomy of the subgenus Ashima genus Phortica is revised. A cladistic analysis 66 morphological characters conducted, covering 35 species (28 known and 7 new species: efragmentata sp. nov., P. andreagigoni watabei halimunensis akutsui kerinciensis takehiroi nov.) which correspond to 71.4% 49 total spp. Ashima. resulting cladogram shows that studied are separated into several clades/subclades/cluster each highly supported with specific synapomorphies. Those newly defined as following...

The phylogeny of the Colocasiomyia cristata species group is reconstructed as a hypothesis, based on DNA sequences two mitochondrial and six nuclear genes 51 morphological characters. resulting tree splits this into clades, one which corresponds to colocasiae subgroup. Therefore, new subgroup named established for other clade. Within subgroup, three subclades are recognized each them defined complex: complex composed five (including ones: C. kinabaluana sp. nov., kotana nov. matthewsi nov.),...

Abstract Despite the intensive use of Leptopilina genus and its drosophilid hosts as model systems in study host–parasitoid interactions, diversity distribution species occurring Asian region remain elusive. Here we report phylogeny Japanese attacking frugivorous flies, based on COI, ITS1 ITS2 sequences. Consistent with molecular data, hybridization experiments morphological examination, five were recorded Japan: heterotoma , L. victoriae three new species, two Ryukyu archipelago,...

The diversity, abundance and association of frugivorous drosophilids their parasitoids were studied in Bogor, Indonesia (tropical region), compared with the results Iriomote-jima (subtropical region) Tokyo (temperate region). Among adult drosophilid flies collected traps baited banana wooded areas, number commonly observed species (i.e. that occupied more than 0.5% total samples) was 10 Bogor nine Iriomote-jima, (six species), probably reflecting high diversity fruits. rate parasitism very...

Abstract The phylogeny of Colocasiomyia ( D rosophilidae) is analysed using data for 70 morphological characters, many which are re‐evaluated from or added to those used previously, an expanded taxon sample 24 ingroup species. A special focus put on three species, two have remained unresolved their relationships other and the a newly discovered analysis results in single, most parsimonious cladogram, clade comprising focal species recognized along with clades recovered known groups . Abstract Diapause and cold tolerance are essential for temperate insects to pass the winter, with mechanisms controlling these two traits varying considerably among insects. In present study, diapause compared three Leptopilina species: japonica Novković & Kimura, victoriae Nordlander ryukyuensis all larval parasitoids of frugivorous drosophilid flies, aim understanding their climatic adaptations. The first species is divided into ( ) subtropical subspecies formosana ), latter...

Abundances and parasitism rates of frugivorous drosophilid flies were studied in three localities at altitudes 250–1350 m near Bogor, Indonesia. The parasitoid species classified into four groups: low-altitude species, high-altitude abundant a mid-altitude location occurring rather evenly from low to high locations. ananassae immigrans groups major drosophilids collected. All the group more lower altitudes, rate this decreased with increasing altitude. Thus, host abundance seems affect rate....
