Ostracods are microcrustaceans with a calcareous carapace, very useful as paleoenvironmental indicators. Eucypris fontana (Graf, 1931) is non-marine ostracod species, distributed in southern Neotropics, commonly found living bisexual populations well quaternary sequences Patagonia. Geometry morphometric analysis offers efficient and powerful techniques to quantify, describe analyze shape size variations. In this study, phenotypic changes the carapace (size shape) of E. were analyzed using...

Abstract The well-exposed marine Eocene units from southwestern Patagonia, Argentina, contain useful information for reconstructing regional climate and oceanographic patterns in an area adjacent to the Drake Passage. aim of this paper is integrate dinoflagellate cyst data three sections Austral Basin (Río Turbio Formation) propose a zonation scheme, which can be applied other Atlantic Ocean sites. Assemblages organic walled cysts have been analysed different cropping-out cores, showing high...

The middle—late Eocene (45–36 Ma) dinoflagellate cyst distribution in high latitudes of the Southern Hemisphere has been explained by a surface ocean circulation pattern characterized extensive subpolar gyres around Antarctica. Based on global paleoclimate models it proposed that these might favored development an Antarctic—endemic assemblage, which was consistently abundant until end Eocene. During late deepening Tasman Gateway and Drake Passage would have generated circumpolar water flow...

Abstract A proper understanding of the palaeoceanographic evolution Drake Passage during Palaeogene is hampered by lack precise tools to date and correlate sedimentary units areas adjacent region. In this work, considering recently published radiometric U–Pb dates, we revised age a previous dinoflagellate zones for middle upper Eocene Austral–Magallanes Basin. The quantitative analysis late cyst assemblages from different localities close allowed us reconstruct palaeoenvironmental conditions...

In order to characterize Patagonian (Argentina) ecoregions using non-marine ostracods, their associations in 69 environments were assessed. Twenty eight taxa recorded, including 12 endemic of the Neotropical region. Our results indicate that ostracods are mainly influenced by electrical conductivity (EC), altitude, pH, and temperature; shows a correlation with Argentinian ecoregions. Assemblage I is composed sites located at high altitude Andean forest ecoregion. Host waters have low...

Changes in the ostracod assemblages from two sediment cores collected Lago Cardiel southeastern Patagonia (49°S) reflect main regional abrupt climatic changes over last 15.6 cal. ka BP . Shifts species abundance and switches dominances suggest that these were mainly driven by variable salinity. During Late Pleistocene, Limnocythere rionegroensis was abundant dominant, indicating waters with high salinity prevalence of evaporative processes. Between 12.6 10.8 , expanded markedly reached an...

Geometric morphometric methods are powerful tools to discriminate between closely related ostracods taxa as well study the relationship their morphological variations, taxonomy and paleoecology. In this study, valve outline analysis allows discrimination non-marine ostracod C. silvestrii R. whatleyi juveniles, pointing out differences in posterior area surface ornamentation. Modern female specimens of from 23 sites located a spatial transect (41 51 °S) exhibited extensive variability, on...
