Podiform chromitite is an important archive recording detailed information on mantle magmatism, heterogeneity and dynamics. High-Al chromitites are believed to have formed in mid-ocean ridge, back-arc, forearc basin environments. Correlation between the geochemical composition of high-Al their geodynamic settings not well explored. Here, we present petrographic, microstructural, mineral chemical, whole-rock platinum-group element (PGE) data podiform from Moa-Baracoa ophiolitic massif (MBOM)...

Chromite deposits in the Havana-Matanzas ophiolites of Western Cuba include both ) and chromitites that commonly occur upper part mantle ectonites near mantle-crust transition zone. These generally form small lenticular bodies spatially associated with strongly serpentinized dunite.Platinum group minerals (PGM) are found only Cr-rich chromitites, as euhedral or subeuhedral, very (less than 10 µm long) crystals. The most abundant PGM is laurite, accompanied by minor osmium, cuproiridsite,...

Structural field relationships, petrography and geochemical features of plagiogranites associated intermediate (diorite) to mafic rocks (basalt gabbro) the Habana–Matanzas ophiolites in northern Cuba suggest that these felsic rock units represent a boundary case between forearc volcanic arc ophiolite types. Subduction-related basalts can be subdivided into back-arc, back-arc forearc, The majority plot oceanic (as well as joint arc–continental arc) Th/Yb–Nb/Yb diagram. samples classify...

We present new geochemical data for the upper mantle and crustal sections (whole‐rock major trace element compositions) as well mineral chemical data, from Northern Carbibbean ophiolites in Habana‐Matanzas region Western Cuba. These are part of Cuban Ophiolitic Belt (NCOB), extending more than 1000 km along island. The peridotites composed mainly refractory harzburgite with tectonite textures, show convex‐downward patterns depleted MREE normalized to chondrite values (McDonough Sun, 1995)....
