Abstract Flagellar filaments function as the propellers of bacterial flagellum and their supercoiling is key to motility. The outer domains on surface filament are non-critical for motility in many bacteria structures functions not conserved. Here, we show atomic cryo-electron microscopy flagellar from enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7, enteropathogenic E. O127:H6, Achromobacter , Sinorhizobium meliloti where dimerize or tetramerize form either a sheath screw-like surface. These...

The bacterial flagellum is a complex macromolecular machine that drives bacteria through diverse fluid environments. Although many components of the flagellar motor are conserved across species, roles FliL numerous and species-specific. Here, we have characterized an additional player required for function in Sinorhizobium meliloti, MotF, which identified as paralog. We performed comparative analysis MotF FliL, interaction partners two-hybrid pull-down assays, investigated their motility...

Abstract Chemotaxis is a fundamental process whereby bacteria seek out nutrient sources and avoid harmful chemicals. For the symbiotic soil bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti , chemotaxis system also plays an essential role in interaction with its legume host. The chemotactic signaling cascade initiated through interactions of attractant or repellent compound chemoreceptors methyl‐accepting proteins (MCPs). S. possesses eight to mediate chemotaxis. Six these receptors are transmembrane...

The polyamine norspermidine is one of the major polyamines synthesized by Vibrionales and has also been found in various aquatic organisms. Norspermidine among environmental signals that positively regulate Vibrio cholerae biofilm formation. NspS/MbaA signaling complex detects extracellular mediates response to this polyamine. binding NspS periplasmic protein thought inhibit phosphodiesterase activity MbaA, increasing levels biofilm-promoting second messenger cyclic diguanylate...

The flagellar motor is a powerful macromolecular machine used to propel bacteria through various environments. We determined that motility of the alpha-proteobacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti nearly abolished in absence transcriptional regulator LdtR, known influence peptidoglycan remodeling and stress response. LdtR does not regulate gene transcription. Remarkably, defects ΔldtR mutant can be restored by secondary mutations motA or previously uncharacterized regulon, which we named motS....
