This paper presents an adapted anion exchange column chemistry protocol which allowed separation of high‐purity fractions Cu and Zn from geological materials. Isobaric non‐spectral interferences were virtually eliminated for consequent multiple‐collector ICP‐MS analysis the isotopic composition these metals. The procedure achieved ∼ 100% recoveries, thus ensuring absence column‐induced fractionation. By employing techniques, we report analyses five reference materials: BCR‐027 blende ore...

Two approaches to correct for mass discrimination effects associated with Cu and Zn isotopic measurements on two different MC-ICP-MS instruments (a Micromass IsoProbe a VG Axiom) have been compared assessed in detail: (1) sample-standard bracketing (SSB), (2) the ‘empirical external normalisation’ (EEN) whereby second element is used simultaneously discrimination. This has provided new insights into behaviours of under varying instrumental set-ups, allowed improvements be made existing...

Spectral interferences originating from instrumental and sample-matrix components continue to present a major analytical challenge high-precision isotope ratio measurements by multiple-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). This is particularly true when measuring stable isotopic variability of Cu Zn, where related spectral may obscure the very small anomalies that typify these metals in terrestrial materials. We systematic characterisation quantification across...

In an earlier study, we found that rice (Oryza sativa) grown in nutrient solution well-supplied with Zn preferentially took up light (64)Zn over (66)Zn, probably as a result of kinetic fractionation membrane transport processes. Here, measure isotope by submerged Zn-deficient soil and without fertilizer. We grew the same genotype study plus low-Zn tolerant intolerant lines from recombinant inbred population. contrast to solution, fertilizer little or heavy isotopic enrichment plants relative...

Abstract Background The BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine has been shown to be effective at preventing serious COVID-19 events in clinical trials. There is less evidence on effectiveness real-world settings, especially for older people. Here, we aimed estimate the context of rapid NHS mass-vaccination programme England, exploiting age-based vaccination eligibility thresholds minimise and correct selection bias. Methods We studied 170,226 individuals between ages 80 83 years from community settings...

Abstract Background The BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine has been shown to be effective at preventing serious Covid-19 events in clinical trials. There is less evidence on effectiveness real-world settings, especially for older people. rapid roll-out of the NHS vaccination programme England based age thresholds offers an opportunity make unbiased comparisons outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated populations. Methods Findings We matched (aged 80-83 years) recipients with younger 76-79 persons not...
