Premise Both universal and family‐specific targeted sequencing probe kits are becoming widely used for reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships in angiosperms. Within the pantropical Ochnaceae, we show that with careful data filtering, equally as capable resolving intergeneric custom kits. Furthermore, strength combining from both to mitigate bias provide a more robust result resolve evolutionary relationships. Methods We sampled 23 Ochnaceae genera two kits, Angiosperms353 kit kit....

Abstract The Checklist of the Vascular Plants Republic Guinea (CVPRG) is a specimen-based, expert-validated knowledge product, which provides concise synthesis and overview current on 3901 vascular plant species documented from (Conakry), West Africa, including their accepted names synonyms, as well distribution status within (indigenous or introduced, endemic not). CVPRG generated automatically Collections Database Names Backbone Database, both developed maintained at Royal Botanic Gardens,...

An annotated checklist of the 271 strict-endemic taxa (235 species) and 387 near-endemic (337 vascular plants in Mozambique is provided. The figwort family, Scrophulariaceae, comprises c. 2000 species whose evolutionary relationships at the tribal level have proven difficult to resolve, hindering our ability understand their origin and diversification. We designed a specific probe kit for targeting 849 nuclear loci obtaining plastid regions as by-products. sampled 87% of genera described in family use dataset estimate relationships, timing diversification, biogeographic patterns. Ten tribes, including two new Androyeae...

Ochna barbertonensis is described as a new species from the Barberton Mountains in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The characterised by its suffrutescent habit, elongate-deltoid stipules sometimes with broadened base, mucronate leaf tip and high anther to filament ratio, where anthers are ca. two times longer than filaments. It placed within sect. due poricidal subglobose drupes, attached at base. most likely be confused superficially similar confusa, but that has longitudinal dehiscence shorter...

Abstract Advances in high-throughput DNA sequencing are allowing faster and more affordable generation of molecular phylogenetic trees for many organisms. However, resolving relationships at species level is still challenging, particularly taxonomically difficult groups. Until recently, the classification Ochna had been based only on morphological data. Here, we present first comprehensive phylogenomic study genus using targeted with a custom probe kit. We sampled c. 85% to evaluate current...

Summary. Olinia chimanimani T. Shah & I. Darbysh. is described as a distinct species from the Chimanimani mountains in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, based on morphological evidence. It differs other of sect. Rochetiana its smaller leaf size, sessile attachment, glabrous flowers galled becoming narrowly swollen without prominent tubercles when infected. A description, key illustration, distribution map ecological information are provided. The populations have been studied field, it only known two...

Background and aims – Ochna holstii its allies represent an ecologically important group in a variety of lowland to montane habitats tropical eastern southern Africa. Identifying delimiting species within this has proved challenging due lack variation morphological characters. We combine genomic-scale data multiple accessions per with generate taxonomic revision for the complex using multi-evidence approach. Material methods A total 50 samples representing eight were analysed target...

ABSTRACT Sansevierias are a diverse group of flowering plants native to Africa, Madagascar, the Arabian Peninsula and Indian subcontinent, popular outside their range as low maintenance houseplants. Traditionally recognized distinct genus, Sansevieria was recently merged with larger genus Dracaena based on molecular phylogenetic data. Within clade, taxonomic uncertainties remain despite numerous attempts classify species. We aim arrive at robust phylogeny using plastid phylogenomic approach,...
