We present powder and single-crystal x-ray diffraction data as evidence for a monoclinic distortion in the low-spin $(S=0)$ intermediate spin states $(S=1)$ of ${\mathrm{LaCoO}}_{3}.$ The alternation short long bonds ab plane indicates presence ${e}_{g}$ orbital ordering induced by cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion. observe an increase with temperature agreement thermally activated behavior ${\mathrm{Co}}^{3+}$ ions from ground state to intermediate-spin excited state.

We present high-temperature powder x-ray diffraction data of the orbital-order-induced structural distortion RMnO3, with R a rare earth element. The associated phase transition takes place in temperature interval ≈200 K which orbitally ordered and disordered coexist. analyse evolution RMnO3 perovskite structure size rare-earth ion temperature. show that rotation MnO6 octahedra stabilizes cooperative Jahn–Teller to higher

The crystal morphology of silver laurate, stearate, and behenate is studied. structures form a homologous series for AgOOCnH2n-1 (for n = even). These crystals are morphologically only isomorphous when grown at low supersaturation. morphological importance the top facets depends on supersaturation as well carbon chain length. surface topology studied molecular scale with use atomic force microscopy. For all facets, two-dimensional birth-and-spread mechanism found. measured structure combined...
