We describe the use of a videolaryngoscope in an unconventional manner, with provider positioned front patient during intubation. This is called “face-to-face intubation” technique. During deep brain stimulation surgery, head fixed Mayfield frame, placement supraglottic airway was unsuccessful on induction general anesthesia due to inadequate formation seal. Due these circumstances, we intubated from using face-to-face intubation believe that ability intubate adds anesthesiologist’s...
Single-institution retrospective study. To assess the effect surgical staging (i.e., sequencing) has on clinical and economic outcomes for patients undergoing sacropelvic tumor resection requiring lumbopelvic stabilization.Sacral corpectomy with stabilization is an extensive procedure that can be performed in either a single episode or multiple episodes of care different days. The impact varied sequencing patient, resource, financial unknown. This single-center case series identified all cases...
Extracorporeal circulation (ECC) support using intraoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) during lung transplantation (LTx) is now a routine practice for many high volume centers. Circuits that are dedicated to ECMO alone can be expensive and do not allow full cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) performed. We describe our technique of instituting venoarterial LTx less-expensive hybrid circuit facilitates easy immediate conversion CPB if needed, without interruption ECC.
Hypotension is a frequent complication in the intensive care unit (ICU) after adult cardiac surgery. To describe frequency of hypotension ICU following surgery and its relation to hospital outcomes.A retrospective study post-cardiac surgical patients at tertiary academic medical center two-year period. We abstracted baseline demographics, comorbidities, all pertinent clinical variables. The primary predictor variable was development within first 30 min upon arrival from operating room (OR)....
We describe a case of intraoperative diagnosis and successful deferred percutaneous closure patent foramen ovale (PFO) in the clinical setting acute refractory hypoxemic respiratory failure new-onset ischemic stroke an elderly patient after coronary artery bypass graft. Perioperative morbidity (i.e. severe hypoxemia, worsening right ventricular dysfunction, embolic stroke) that is potentially related to intraoperatively diagnosed PFO during cardiac surgery can complicate management Intensive...

Mask ventilation (MV) is an essential component of airway management and can be lifesaving in situations where the placement a secure device proves challenging. Effective MV requires seal to created between mask face maintain patency external structures difficult setting facial abnormalities or trauma. Here we describe case which continuous positive pressure (CPAP) was used for anesthesia induction 85-year-old man who underwent plastic surgery reconstruction left nasal dorsum ala following...
Blood transfusion represents an important and potentially modifiable risk in the daily practice of cardiac surgery. The profile increasing cost led us to study effect different maneuvers, interventions, or surgical techniques minimize while maintaining patient safety. This compares postoperative outcomes before after incorporating a verbal hemoglobin (Hb) trigger during timeout which surgeon anesthesiologist preemptively agree on threshold for packed red blood cell (PRBC) administration...
