Abstract The theory that cancer may arise under conditions of reduced immune capacity is supported by observations humans with deficiencies such as occur following organ transplants. However, no study on has been done in which the reference population was same cases arose and there a sufficiently long period follow‐up. Information 5,692 Nordic recipients renal transplants 1964–1982 linked national registries (1964‐1986) registries. Person‐years at risk were calculated from date first...
Abstract Understanding of power losses and turbulence increase due to wind turbine wake interactions in large offshore farms is crucial optimizing farm design. Power wakes are quantified based on observations from Middelgrunden state‐of‐the‐art models. Observed solely approximately 10% average. These relatively high for a single line turbines part the close spacing farm. The model Wind Analysis Application Program (WAsP) shown capture despite operating beyond its specifications spacing....
Abstract Initial assessments of a wind lidar have shown the technology to significant potential for field measurements in energy industry. A more extended evaluation is now reported using scanning next meteorological mast with calibrated anemometers at Risø test site Høvsøre on windy northwest coast Denmark. Results are presented speed comparisons heights up 100 m above ground level showing excellent correlation between and cup anemometers. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
Abstract To identify the influence of wind shear and turbulence on turbine performance, flat terrain profiles are analysed up to a height 160 m. The profiles' shapes found extend from no high shear, many occasions, local maxima within also observed. Assuming certain hub height, with hub‐height speeds between 6 m s −1 8 normalized at 7 grouped number mean profiles. energy in varies considerably for same speed. These then used as input Blade Element Momentum model that simulates Siemens 3.6 MW...
We present an analysis of data from a measurement campaign performed at the Bolund peninsula in Denmark winter 2007–2008. is small isolated hill exhibiting significantly steep escarpment main wind direction. The physical shape represents, scaled-down form, typical turbine site complex terrain. Because its size effect atmospheric stratification can be neglected, which makes experiment ideal for validation neutral flow models and hence model scenarios most relevant to energy. have carefully...
Kidney biopsies from 14 insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients with persistent albuminuria were studied by light and electron microscopy. In terms of kidney function, the spanned stages early to advanced nephropathy. The clinical parameters (ranges, medians in parentheses) urinary albumin excretion (UAE) 158–5494 μg/min (1153 μg/min), glomerular filtration rate (GFR) 30–128 ml · min −1 1.73 m−2 (90 mh min−1 m−2) mean arterial blood pressure () 87–122 mmHg (109 mmHg). severity...
ABSTRACT The need for measuring wind speed and direction at greater heights several levels simultaneously gains importance as turbines become larger higher. For this purpose, remote‐sensing profilers very attractive resource assessment power performance testing. However, the existing standards only permit use of cup anemometers standard instruments. main issue preventing remote sensors in such is to maintain traceability measurements international system. In paper, we describe a verification...
The decarbonisation of energy sources requires additional investments in renewable technologies, including the installation onshore and offshore wind farms. For to remain competitive, farms must continue provide low-cost power even when covering larger areas. Inside very large farms, winds can decrease considerably from their free-stream values a point where an equilibrium speed is reached. magnitude this primarily dependent on balance between turbine drag force downward momentum influx...
Abstract The paper presents research to develop a model complex that takes into account the interaction between wind farm and atmosphere, closely spaced farms. Six models have been reviewed developed/adapted for use in modelling, covering scales from several hundred kilometres down size of individual turbine. Flow within farms is difficult predict. analytical modified WAsP/park show promise; however, these require further development/evaluation. For flow downwind farm, intermediate‐scale fit...
Abstract While experience gained through the offshore wind energy projects currently operating is valuable, a major uncertainty in estimating power production lies prediction of dynamic links between atmosphere and turbines regimes. The objective ENDOW project was to evaluate, enhance interface wake boundary layer models for utilization offshore. resulted significant advance state art both marine models, leading improved speed turbulence profiles within large farms. Use new databases from...
Renal function was examined in 153 manic-depressive patients treated with lithium for more than 5 years, mean 10 years. No significant change detectable plasma creatinine. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decreased slightly, but significantly, and not until after 17 years of treatment did the regression line reach lower confidence limit reference material. GFR generally only moderately decreased. concentrating capacity significantly reduced during whole investigation period time. independent...
The Weibull distribution is commonly used to describe climatological wind-speed distributions in the atmospheric boundary layer. While vertical profiles of mean wind speed layer have received significant attention, variation shape with height less understood. Previously we derived a probabilistic model based on similarity theory for calculating effects stability and planetary boundary-layer depth upon long-term profiles. However, some applications (e.g. energy estimation) require parameter...
Within the lowest kilometer of Earth's atmosphere, in so-called atmospheric boundary layer, winds are often gusty and turbulent. Nearest to ground, turbulence is predominately generated by mechanical wall-bounded wind shear, whereas at higher altitudes turbulent mixing heat moisture also play a role. The variance (square standard deviation) fluctuation around mean speed measure kinetic energy content turbulence. This can be resolved into spectral distributions, or spectra, as functions eddy...
Abstract. Understanding uncertainties in wind resource assessment associated with the use of output from numerical weather prediction (NWP) models is important for energy applications. A better understanding sources error reduces risk and lowers costs. Here, an intercomparison 25 NWP presented three sites northern Europe characterized by simple terrain. The are evaluated using a number statistical properties relevant to verified observations. On average have small speed biases offshore aloft...
A new method for percutaneous renal biopsy under the guidance of ultrasound using a special transducer is described. The main advantage that visualization kidneys independent function. Fifty patients have been biopsied this method, latter 25 in consecutive series which tissue was obtained from 24 patients.
