In this study, two new species of soft scale (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccidae) associated with rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis L. (Lamiaceae) from Colombia, Cryptinglisia corpoica Kondo Montes sp. nov. and ica are described illustrated based on the adult female. Two other coccid species, namely Parasaissetia nigra (Nietner) Saissetia coffeae (Walker), newly recorded rosemary. An identification key is presented to all that have been reported spp. updated insects genus Cockerell provided also.
Herein we describe a new species, Tillancoccus koreguajae Caballero & Ramos, sp. n. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) from Colombia collected on sugarcane. Pinnaspis strachani (Cooley) is also recorded sugarcane for the first time worldwide. An updated list of seven species Coccomorpha in provided, including information its distribution, biology, and mutualistic ants each species. Seven scale insects Coccomorpha) have been previously sugarcane, Saccharum officinarum L. (Poaceae) Colombia:...
Cryptes utzoni Lin, Kondo Cook sp. n. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) is described based on adult female morphology and DNA sequences from mitochondrial nuclear loci. This Australian endemic species was found the stem of Acacia aneura (Fabaceae) in Western Australia. All phylogenetic analyses three independent loci show that C. closely related to baccatus (Maskell), type only Maskell, 1892. The illustrated a table provided characters differ among females two now recognised (C. utzoni) morphologically...
The soft scale insect Inglisia vitrea Cockerell is transferred to the genus Pseudokermes as P. vitreus (Cockerell) comb. nov. adult female redescribed and illustrated. A lectotype designated based on newly slide-mounted dry type material. New host-plant records an updated geographical distribution for are given. correntinus Granara de Willink recognized syn. of I. vitrea.
A new soft scale insect, Bombacoccus aguacatae Kondo, gen. n. and sp. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) collected on the branches twigs of avocado, Persea americana Mill. (Lauraceae) in Colombia, is described illustrated based adult female. An updated taxonomic key to closely related genera Toumeyella-group provided.
A brief introduction to the science of coccidology, and a synopsis history, advances challenges in this field study are discussed. The changes coccidology since publication Systema Naturae by Carolus Linnaeus 250 years ago briefly reviewed. economic importance, phylogenetic relationships application DNA barcoding scale insect identification also considered discussion section.
Phenacoccus manihoti Matile-Ferrero (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), one of the most serious pests cassava worldwide, has recently reached Asia, raising significant concern over its potential spread throughout region. To support management decisions, this article reports recent distribution records, and estimates climatic suitability for regional using a CLIMEX model. The also presents taxonomic key that separates P. from all other mealybug species associated with genus Manihot. Model...
The Southeast Asian soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccidae) associated with ants of the Crematogaster borneensis-group (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and living in hollow stems Macaranga plants (Euphorbiaceae) are revised taxonomically. Ten species genus Coccus L. recognised: seven were described previously three new herein. are: caviramicolus Morrison, C. circularis heckrothi Gullan Kondo sp. n., lambirensis macarangicolus Takahashi, macarangae penangensis pseudotumuliferus...
Abstract Industrial hemp ( Cannabis sativa L.) is a high-yielding annual crop primarily grown for fiber, seeds, and oil. Due to the phytochemical composition of hemp, there has been an increased interest in market nutraceuticals dietary supplements human health. Recent omics analysis led elucidation candidate genes involved syntheses specialized metabolites. However, detailed study these not undertaken due lack stable transformation system. We report first time agroinfiltration system...
The Neotropical scale insect genus Ripersiella Tinsley (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Rhizoecidae) was investigated, based on soil samples deposited at the Hungarian Natural History Museum. Description and illustration of a new species, incarum Kaydan & Szita sp. n., an identification key additional locality records for currently known species in region, are provided discussed.
The lac insect, Tachardiella ourinhensis Hempel, 1937 (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Kerriidae), is redescribed and illustrated based on type material, transferred to Neotachardiella Kondo, Peronti & Pacheco da Silva, gen. nov. as (Hempel), comb. Additionally, two new species, charruarum sp. nangapire nov., are described adult females collected in Uruguay Brazil, respectively, various species of Myrtaceae. In addition, the first-instar nymph N. illustrated. A lectotype designated for T. slides...
New plant hosts are recorded for nine scale insect species recently collected in Espírito Santo, Brazil, and eleven the first time from state: Ceroplastes floridensis Comstock, Coccus longulus (Douglas), viridis (Green), Eucalymnatus tesselatus (Signoret), Pseudokermes sp., Saissetia coffeae (Walker), Phenacoccus madeirensis Green, Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi Gimpel & Miller, longispinus (Targioni Tozzetti), Icerya purchasi Maskell, genistae Hempel. This is also record of Co. Brazil....
Abstract Mutualistic interactions between ants and Hemiptera are mediated to a large extent by the amount quality of sugar‐rich honeydew produced. Throughout neotropics, predaceous fire ant S olenopsis geminata ( F abricius) H ymenoptera: ormicidae) is found in association with colonies pineapple mealybug, D ysmicoccus brevipes C ockerell) emiptera: P seudococcidae), which they actively tend protect from attack natural enemies. In this study, we evaluate effects access sucrose solution on...
Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae) is the main vector of bacteria that causes Huanglongbing (HLB), most destructive disease Citrus. The presence D. was reported in Ecuador 2013 on branches citrus, Citrus spp., and orange jessamine, Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack (Rutaceae), but HLB has not been detected so far this country. This paper reports for first time two important natural enemies Ecuador, i.e., its parasitoid Tamarixia radiata (Waterston, 1922) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)...
