A new species, Encyonopsis indonesica , is described from the ancient lake Matano, Sulawesi island, Indonesia. The morphology of this species was studied by means light and scanning electron microscopy. E. has a remarkable valve ultrastructure. surface ornamented with numerous longitudinal siliceous ribs verrucae. Valve face delineated mantle thickened marginal ridge. Raised sterna border raphe branches. Raphe distinctly undulate distal ends hooked strongly to ventral side. only similar...
We performed a comparison of molecular and morphological diversity in freshwater colonial genus Synura (Chrysophyceae, Stramenopiles), using the island Newfoundland (Canada) as case study. examined species collections from 79 localities, compared these findings to based on characters for 150 strains isolated same sites. Of 27 or species‐level lineages identified, only one third was recorded by both techniques, showing approaches are complementary estimating within this genus. Eight taxa,...
A new diatom genus, Gogorevia, is described on the basis of an integrated molecular and morphological investigation. Two species are from Vietnam: generitype, G. rinatii sp. nov., ovalis nov. These share many features with Achnanthes exigua allied taxa that were previously transferred to genera Achnanthidium or Lemnicola. Our current investigation shows Gogorevia distinct phylogenetically removed above-mentioned genera. Morphologically, differs Lemnicola by shape valves, possessing...
Mallomonas distinguenda sp. nov. and skvortsovii are described from Dak Lua swamp, located in Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai Province, Southeastern Viet Nam). The description is based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission scanning electron microscopy. These species belong to the section Papillosae scale morphology. most characteristic feature for both taxa shield reticulation. In case distinguenda, it an external By contrast, has internal
The history of the description and subsequent consideration diatom genus Stephanocyclus Skabitschevsky (Thalassiosirales, Bacillariophyta) is discussed. The new was described on basis a species, S. planum Skabitschevsky, originally collected from River Ob.However, has been more or less forgotten since its initial in 1975.Type material Skabitschevsky's collection subsequently lost.An epitype for this species recognized same region as original collection, typified with population Lake Baikal...
The silica-scaled chrysophyte flora from Indonesian Papua was investigated by means of electron microscopy. A total twenty-four taxa were recorded, including five belonging to Paraphysomonas, one Chrysosphaerella, Spiniferomonas, fifteen Mallomonas and two Synura. Thirteen recorded for the first time in Indonesia. Comparison species composition chrysophytes different parts Island New Guinea shows significant differences. “living fossil” discovered, preisigii, which described previously...
A large species of the diatom genus Gomphonema Ehrenberg, G. matanensis sp. nov., is described as new to science from ancient Lake Matano, Indonesia. Light and scanning electron microscopic observations valve morphology this are presented. The similar other that have ovoid areolar openings without external flaps or occlusions, such gomphopleuroides Amossé ex Kociolek, Glushchenko & Kulikovskiy members kaznakowi complex, both known Southeast Asia. This has special features bi- triradiate...
Four new morphotypes of chrysophycean stomatocysts with true complex collar are described following International Statospore Working Group (ISWG) guidelines and illustrated by SEM micrographs. Stomatocyst 1 is ornamented long ridges while three other spines. Differences our from known discussed. We suppose that produced acidobiontic oligotraphentic species but biological affinity them currently unknown.
Abstract Stomatocysts of the rare heterotrophic chrysophyte, Paraphysomonas caelifrica , were discovered from a shallow ephemeral pond Tavolgasai (“Orenburgskiy” State Nature Reserve, Orenburg Region, Russia). Morphology stomatocysts was studied using scanning electron microscopy. P. are spherical and smooth with cylindrical collar surrounding regular pore. So, they do not belong to stomatocyst 1 Duff Smol as previously thought. The description new morphotype is provided.
The genus Mastogloia comprises mainly marine diatoms with a modified and specialized valvocopula called partecta. We isolated new species, morphologically similar to M. cyclops, from the coastal waters of Viet Nam. A detailed study using light scanning electron microscopy as well molecular phylogenetic analysis based on SSU rDNA rbcL sequences led us describe Stigmagloia lobbanii gen. et sp. nov. main difference between is presence stigma. differences S. danseyi, type species Mastogloia, are...
The two-celled colonial synurophyte genus Chrysodidymus was originally distinguished from its close relative Synura on the basis of colonies always being two cells, shape cells and odd swimming nature colony. Recently, based gene sequence data, found to be deeply nested within clade. As a result placed in synonymy with new combination, S. synuroidea, made for basionym C. synuroideus. Based our observations findings described under Chrysodidymus, we propose descriptions species papillosa...
Mallomonas gusakovii sp. nov. is described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This species belongs to section Quadratae characterized large broad scales three types with an internal reticulation, V-shaped rib a forward projecting wing. Different the in taxa are discussed. Scales were found only two sites Phu Quoc Island, Southern Vietnam.
In this study we observed 17 additional morphotypes of chrysophycean stomatocysts from the shallow lake Zhurmankol which is located in a protected zone South Urals steppes (Russia). Including our new records, number known Lake increased to 32 morphotypes. Three are described as science. Their similarity and difference previously discussed. While biological affinity two remains unknown, third stomatocyst was produced by heterotrophic chrysophyte species, Paraphysomonas bandaiensis. Critical...
The present paper focuses on the silica-scaled chrysophytes from two tropical islands: Con Son (Con Dao Archipelago) and Phu Quoc, located in Viet Nam. Electron microscopy revealed fifty-seven taxa, of which forty-one belong to genus Mallomonas. others are species genera Synura (5), Paraphysomonas (8), Spiniferomonas (1), Chrysosphaerella (1) Lepidochromonas (1). This is first report In addition, reported for time country. Six taxa Mallomonas five were not identifiable lower rank may...
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is an important component of aquatic environments; it plays a key role in the biogeochemical cycles many chemical elements. Using excitation–emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy, we examined fluorescent fraction DOM (FDOM) produced at stationary phase growth five strains microalgae sampled and isolated from Ob Yenisei gulfs. Based on morphological molecular descriptions, were identified as diatoms (Asterionella formosa, Fragilaria cf. crotonensis,...
Four species of Gomphonema described by Hustedt with fusiform valve shape are studied for the first time using SEM. G. longissimum Hustedt, angustissimum woltereckii and subtiliforme were described, known only, from ancient Malili lake system in Indonesia. Molecular investigations two cultured strains longissimum, 18S rDNA rbcL, presented. In terms morphology, these four have unusually long valves a otherwise unknown Gomphonema, yet morphological similarities other include C-shaped or...
A new species, Cryptomonas cattiensis sp. nov., is described from Vietnam based on morphological and molecular data. Phylogenetic relationships inferred nuclear small large subunit ribosomal DNA, internal transcribed spacer 2, plastid psbA sequences show that the species forms a separate branch phylogenetic tree of genus Cryptomonas. This has slightly sigmoid to elliptical cells in ventral view single plastid, deeply notched into several irregular lobes, with two pyrenoids. C. been observed...
The first comprehensive morphological investigation of the rare, endemic species Cymbella mirabilis Hustedt from Malili lake system (Indonesia) was prepared using recent samples. This originally described on basis a single valve. assigned to sensu lato its asymmetry about apical axis. SEM shows that this has number unique features relative other freshwater cymbelloid diatoms, such as an axial plate and marginal laminae either side valve pseudoseptum at each end In these C. resembles certain...
