A new species of amphipod, Elasmopus sivaprakasami sp. nov., is described from India. It found to be conspecific with material southern India nearly fifty years previously, but attributed at that time a Japan.
A new species of amphipod, Parhyale piloi sp. nov., is described from India. The taxon fully and figured compared with known which it could be confused.
Background The population structure and breeding biology of the Xanthid crab, Leptodius exaratus (H. Milne Edwards, 1834), on rocky intertidal region Shivrajpur in Saurashtra coast, Gujarat state, were examined. Method From March 2021 to February 2022, monthly sampling was conducted during low tide using catch per unit effort 500 m 2 area. sampled specimens categorised into male, non-ovigerous female or ovigerous female. In order estimate fecundity, morphology crab (carapace width body...
Background The present study investigated the population structure and breeding biology of burrowing brachyuran crab species Dotilla blanfordi Alcock, 1900, which is commonly found on sandy beach Bhavnagar, located Gulf Kachchh, Gujarat coast, India. Methods Monthly sampling was conducted from February 2021 to January 2022 at time low tide using three line transects perpendicular water line, intercepted by a quadrate (0.25 m 2 ) each different levels middle intertidal region: 20 m, 70 120 m....
Pilumnopeus convexus (Maccagno, 1936) (Pilumnidae) is recorded for the first time across Indian coast. The species has so far been reported from coastal waters of Red Sea, Pakistan and Persian Gulf. P. can be easily distinguished closely related species in having transversely hexagonal carapace, acute anterolateral teeth tip of male left gonopod curved to form a hook like structure. Possible explanations new record are discussed.
The identity of Nepinnotheres vicajii (Chhapgar, 1957) (described as Pinnotheres vicajii) (Pinnotheridae), a pea crab associated with the bivalve Marcia recens (Holten, 1802), is clarified. On basis re-diagnosis holotype male and freshly collected female specimens from its type locality, P. now assigned to Arcotheres Manning, 1993. A second poorly known species India, casta (Antony Kuttyamma, 1971), originally Meretrix (Gmelin, 1791) also synonymized A. vicajii.
The identity of Arcotheres pernicola (Bürger, 1895) (Pinnotheridae), a pea crab supposedly associated with the mussel Perna, has been unclear as type specimen is in poor condition. Specimens collected from oyster Magallana gryphoides (Schlotheim, 1820) Alibaugh, Maharashtra state, India, are here referred to A. and species redescribed refigured. Its affinities allied congeners also discussed.
The present study records occurrence of three species spider crabs: Hyastenus hilgendorfi De Man, 1887 (Epialtidae), spinosus A. Milne-Edwards, 1872 (Epialtidae) and Paramaya mulli Ng, Prema & Ravichandran, 2018 (Majidae) for the first time from west coast India. These were earlier reported coastal areas east diagnostic characteristics some remarks on taxonomy each are given in this paper.
